HOLY SHIP!

The 80LB Supreme is HUGE!!!

Many of my friends use the 60lb Supreme and say it will eat a 60lb CQR for breakfast and ask for seconds. Of course I want over-kill because of the way I travel. With a bigger anchor, I’ll sleep better, and will not freak every time I’m at a restaurant and a squall rolls through. The 80, is actually 85 pounds and looks as if it would hold a 100′ ship without a problem. Sam and I have fondly named it Frankenstein. It looks quite big on the roller but I’m sure it will hold the 3 of us safe in heavy conditions. I’ll get pictures and video of it before we launch Frankenstein. I LOVE IT!!!!

Well it took me 26 hours form Marathon to Fort Myers. I had great wind when I left and had splendid moving along just under 7 knots with all sail up. I kept the motor running (in neutral) because I’m trying to burn off all of the 8 year old diesel but I was surprised at how well she handled. I got hit by a few pretty hard squalls off of Cape Romano. I don’t have a wind speed gauge but I’m thinking over 35kts and mixed with some pretty big hail. I didn’t get a wink of sleep as I don’t have my radar installed and couldn’t set a perimeter alarm. It would have been nice if Sam could have taken a few hour watch so I could have got some “shut eye”.

I’m sitting her writing this log eating “Spicy Dilly beans” and drinking a home brew beer, thanks Dean. Maybe we can chat on the phone? I want the recipe for the “dilly beans” and beer. Here is a home recipe for Kahlua:

HOMEMADE KAHLUA

3 c. sugar 1 qt. water 10 to 12 tsp. instant coffee 3 c. vodka (buy most inexpensive) 3 tsp. vanilla

Simmer sugar, water and coffee for 1 1/2 hours. Cool and add vodka and vanilla. Put in bottle. Ready to drink, but will get better with age. OR:

2 c. water 3 1/2 c. sugar 2 tsp. vanilla 1/5 inexpensive vodka 6 tbsp. freeze dried coffee

Boil water in large pot, add 3 1/2 cups sugar and boil 5 minutes. Add vanilla. Dissolve coffee in 1/2 cup water and add to pot. Pour in vodka. Makes 2 fifths. This needs to age at least one month.

I really believe in taking the time to make, repair, restore, and recycle. It’s good time too. Some of the best times Sam and I have are making home made tortillas, cooking, making wine, or working on Splendid.

Peace everyone.

Lets all take the time to make our lives fuller!

I enjoyed following the trip with Spot tracking very much. I also stood outside in a thunderstorm at the appropriate times. Ok I just made that last sentence up, but the Spot tracking is really cool.

Cape Romano shoals so far off shore that it makes the waves greater in a storm. Glad you had a great sail.

Dilly beans: use juice and spices from Claussen Kosher Dill Pickles. Cook beans until just before tender in a steamer. Bring pickle juice to a boil, add beans and a few springs of fresh dill weed.
