Cold front

How can Florida get sooooo frigg’n cold? It’s supposed to be in the mid, to high 30’s tomorrow night. I’m so lucky that splendid came with a heater.

I won’t be working on the boat for the next few days due to weather. We are going to drink hot chocolate, bake, and have movie marathons. Any baking on cold days in nice because the oven really keeps splendid warm.

I’m really bummed about my windlass situation. My buddy Ken gave me a “rope only” ideal windlass. I called ideal about buying parts and a gypsy to convert it to chain and they gave me a $2,000.00 price on a conversion kit, ARRRGGGG!

Well I’m still searching for a windlass.

This is a picture that my friend Ken took when he visited a few days ago.

Life is good.

Peace everyone.

Hi Alex! ….. I’m up in Canada and its -10F right now and my Boat is covered with about 2 ft of snow , I hope this makes you feel at least a little warmer….LOL……Bill

  2. I’m glad not to be up in the snow. But I really wish I was 10 degrees N, or S of the equator. Nice mild weather there :)

  3. Alex,

I have been following your adventures for a while and enjoyed your logs throughout the San Blas, Panama, Tonga and Pacific area. I was living vicariously through the logs. Well, I finally purchased a boat (the day after Christmas – Santa was good)! It’s a 1981 Hunter 33 (I know it’s not bluewater, but I have to start somewhere). It’s in New Port Richey right now and I will be bringing it down to Tampa Bay soon – closer to where I live. Her name is “Reverie” (daydream)

    Keep the dream alive!

    Hey Alex,

I’ve been following you for quite a while. Keeps my horizon in sight and my spirits high as we plan to sail off on ‘Jade’, our Pearson 33 in about a year from now. It’s cold up here on the Chesapeake Bay, and here I was wishing I was in Florida so I could warm up a bit HA! I like your new format and watching Splendid transform. Hope to cross paths one day……Pat

75 degrees F in San Francisco yesterday; the natives were complaining it was too hot!!! But we need the rain really badly or else water rationing this summer.

I live on a canal where I have to go under a mean tide 12′ bridge clearance.
Draft also limited to 2.5 ft range at low, typical west coast florida scenario.
Looking for largest sailboat with retracting mast I can get for some local coastal cruising.
    Any ideas ?

    Hi Guys,
I hope the weather gods send you what you want. But you are still north of the equator in December!!
Here in Sunny Australia it was 44deg the other day – and thats Celsius!
Keep up the sunscreen on yourselves anyway, got to take care of your white girls, right?
