I’m regressing!

Click to view full size imageIt’s true what they say about kids, “They make you grow up”,can you tell from the photo?

It’s been cold! The weather should start to get nice again Sunday and early next week.

I watched a ‘kind of bad”, indi-film, “the stone cutter” last night. It was shot in the South Pacific and I spent the whole film looking at the locations, vegetation, and terrain trying to figure out the location of the island in the film. Buy the end of the film I was convinced it was Moorea, and it was. “The stone cutter” is narrated and is a fairy tale/legend film, but what it did for me is remind me of what I think is important in life. I’ve become a bit numb to the word around me since returning from the Pacific. I can’t wait for my life to “slow” once again. Samantha and I are making our first batch (5 gallons) of wine this week. We are collecting wine bottles and will fill the bilge with a little extra ballast : ) I’m also bidding on an antique bread maker on ebay. It is basically a pail with a handle that kneads the doe. I’m “piece-mealing” a decent tackle kit, and buying a few crab and lobster traps that I will carry on Splendid. It will be nice to focus on gathering food once again. I’m also going to build a nice food dryer out of black tin on Splendid’s aft deck. Basically it will be a 4′ X 2’ square box with shelves for drying fish, fruit, and veggies.

Although I haven’t been doing outside fiberglass work I have managed to get a lot done on my nav-station. I installed my 12 volt navigation PC, SSB, Magellan GPS 100 email communicator, and satellite phone. I still have some wiring to do but it’s a really good start. I spent about 5 hours wiring yesterday.

All I’m really looking for these days is a windlass and chain. I’m sure I’ll come up with globs of stuff I’ll need but I’ve got most everything.

Peace everyone.

Do you have some yeast bread recipes? Remember to scour the bucket after each use; otherwise you might pick up some wild yeasts (funky taste). Jacques Pepin has a cooking video for making bread in an heavy pot–same principles.

  4. I got an ebook on making wine. I also bought wine yeast. Wine yeast yealds a bit more alchol content and better flavor in the wine :)))

Isn’t it great to be reminded of whats really important in life…..I think thats the single coolest thing about Project B.S. It tends to do just that for me. My 1st mate and navagator is my 4yrs old daughter! Ron

  7. on bread making. I lived on a sailboat for two years outifttied with a two burner kerosene stove. To bake and bread and cakes I using a 7″ sauce pan with the handle removed, placed inside an a sturdy 8″ dutch oven. It never failed to produce a lovely loaf. FYI… it doesn’t take very long to knead bread, and bread that’s kneaded with love supposedly has magical healing qualities.

Also, Lyn Pardy’s book “the care and feeding of the off-shore crew” is a great source for outfitting a boat for cruising. It’s a little dated but still relevant.

    best………..v.a. cooper
