Land and Sea

Counting the days till cruising!

I dreaming of cruising again. The famous Vietnamese/French sailor, Bernard Moitessier, said it more eloquently, “Once the coast disappears astern, a man alone before His creator can’t remain apart from the natural forces around him. His body and mind, freed from earthly bondage and attachments, can find their essence and purity in the heart of those elements in nature that the ancients made into gods. Wind, Sun, and Sea.” And I would add, and in our own hearts.

Well I’ve started glassing up the base of the autopilot mount. I’m making the whole thing out of solid glass and a stainless plate. I’m not using any plywood or starboard, it’s not that big.

Does anyone know anything about using a paint sprayer? I don’t think the cheap $100 paint sprayers will work well with a 2 part paint (car paint), or awl grip. If anyone knows about painting and can shed some light please let me know. I want to buy a paint sprayer before I go so I can do the work when I get South. I have a really large “project box” at this point. In the project box is a new alternator, regulator, isolator, wash down pump, automatic switches, cigarette lighter plugs, and lots more. I’m trying to accumulate as much as I will need to cover me for 6 months of boat projects. I’ll need to get a bunch of glass mat and epoxy, not to mention paint, a mile of sand paper, primer, and so on.

Does anyone have an EPIRB for sale? I don’t care if the batteries have expired. Also if anyone has a line on a life raft I’d like to hear about it.

I’ll have the Aries and autopilot projects done within the next few weeks. After that I’ll have freedom to move around, I CANT WAIT!!! It makes me think of a good quote:

“Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.” – Kahil Gibran
