I’ve been looking at larger boats all over the world, yachtworld.com is awesome isn’t it? I want to “step up” and know the right opportunity will present itself at some point.
I had an interested buyer for Namaste however I got word this afternoon that he’s passing. He is in Southern Australia and delivering from Tahiti is too far for him. He sounds like a really nice guy and is planning to sail from Southern Australia back to his home in Poland, what a great trip. He wants to do it in a Westsail 28, or 32, “Wise Choice”.
I’m back to weighing 3 options. I need to make a decision ASAP and execute it as soon as my engine parts arrive. Why does shipping always take so long!!!
My plan to the north is as follows. Sail to Bora Bora to check out of French Polynsa and continue to the Northern cooks. I will leave the northern cooks in early November for Kirabiti. I will spend 6 months sailing the Phoenix, Gilbert, and Solomon Islands before heading to Micronesia and Thailand in May/June. I don’t think they have cigetera on the equator so I could do lots of spear fishing. I also hear they have lots of fish and as a result lots of sharks, sounds like fun.
Option two is to beet feet for Tonga and go to New Zealand with everyone else. The good point about this is NZ is a great place to work on the boat. I’d like to paint the hull, bottom, and decks. I could also work in NZ and I have a feeling I’d dig in there for a while. I really want to make some money. I really hate being penniless all the time.
The third option is to put Namaste on the hard here and go to stay in Florida with a friend for 5-6 months. I’d have a nice place to stay and constant source of power so could finish my DVD quickly. This is an expensive option as I’ll have to buy a RT ticket and pay a few grand to put Namaste on the hard. I find this appealing because I’d like to take a break from sailing for a few months and focus on my work. At the end of the day I think I’m just feeling stagnant and unchallenged. I want to focus my mind on something other then living in Paradise for a few months.
I’ve been studying Western Pacific charts and weather patterns for may hours each day. This whole Cyclone thing really makes sailing in the South Pacific interesting. I could also just wing it and keep a close eye on the weather but I don’t think it’s the smartest thing to do, Namaste is everything I have in the world and I’d hate to loose her, not to mention myself. I’ve already heard of 4 cruising boats lost in the fleet here in the good season.
Anyway just posting my thoughts, here is another video.
