Plans!

You know how I always say I don’t like to make plans; well I’ve been planning BIGTIME!

I’ve become possessed by this boat. I’ve found myself looking at it hard and for hours, it’s what I want! I’ve been living this amazing life for a while now and perhaps it’s time to shift gears and do a little bit more.

You know…, my thing is sharing my experience with other people, and I think I’m good at it. I connect with many of “my people” from the website through email; however it’s a bit impersonal. I’ve really enjoyed my charters and getting close to people who share the same dream, I want to do more of it.

As many of you know I lost my mother to lung cancer when I was 20. I’ve always wanted to do something for “the cause” but raising money for R&D to line fat pockets just isn’t my gig. I would like to do a global “make a wish” kind of thing and deal with people (particularly children) on a face to face basis. This isn’t a new idea for me, I’ve been thinking of it for many years. We have a lot of programs like this in the states but not so many in other countries. There are just as many terminal kids (if not more) in countries with substandard health care and their smiles shine just as bright as ours. The problem is they don’t have programs like this and the people are so poor.

I’ve got a line on a CT 54 that I could pick up for around 60k, it’s a big boat and I know it well. It needs some work but since I’m my own mechanic, carpenter, glass guy, and everything else I know I can take it on. I’m thinking of trying to get a few people together that would be interested in spending a cretin amount of time onboard, lets say 2-3 weeks a year for 5 years, and doing a buy in kind of thing for around 20k each. A one week charter is a minimum of 5k on a boat like this and I think 3 weeks a year for 5 years makes the deal pretty appealing.  It might be better for some than buying their own boat and you could always count on an exotic location, not to mention a “first rate” captain.

The other good thing is I’m sure all my sponsors would chip in to help me outfit the boat.

With my remaining time I could do some charter work for income and devote the rest of my time to working with people who really need it but don’t have the money to go for a sailboat charter in their final days. The boat costs what many spend on a car and I think I can pull this off.  The hardest part of this concept would be selling Namaste, I’d feel like I was killing my dog or something. I have Love for this boat, I really do!

The bottom line is I could do a lot of good things with a larger boat and I think it’s time for me to start thinking bigger. My first priority is to finish my next DVD, but after that I’m think I’m going to focus on this full time. I’d like to see Project BlueSphere doing more!

Isn’t this a cool boat? I’ve been getting into steel boats but I don’t know I could find something like this. I am approaching the land of steel boats (New Zeeland & Australia), so perhaps I might luck out and find something special. The owners are coming back next week and I’m going to ask for a tour.

Peace, Love, and new ideas!
