I was almost abducted by aliens last night

I sat down to study pilot charts last night and decided I wanted to make some easting. I was about 10 miles west of my rum line.  I wanted to pass east of Malpelo rock which is about 100 miles in front of me. I turned off the iron jib around 18:00 and went for a swim.  After drying off I made a nice dinner. The current was taking me just where I wanted to go (about a knot).

As I was eating dinner I saw large blooms of light under the surface, it looked like something from the abyss, underwater aliens? “They could have got me when I was in the water” I thought! Then I thought squid!

I’ve never used it but I bought a squid jig before I left. It’s a funny looking lure that glows in the dark and has circular rings of tiny hooks. I put it under the light for 5 minutes and dropped it down about 1000 feet and got a hit. As soon as I got the hit I gave a jerk to set the hook. I don’t think one should try to set the hook on a squid jig as all I retrieved were two large tentacles. I must have ripped them off of the squid. I was going to put them in the fridge for lunch today but decided to leave them out to attach to my lure for tuna hunting; it should smell good to the fish.

I quickly fell asleep floating in space. No moon, no stars, just still blackness. How can the sea be so calm? It didn’t feel like I was on a boat.

At 04:00 I woke up to 7 knots of wind coming from the SSE. I’m currently on course (206m) making 2.6 knots. It’s still dark and I’m still a bit sleepy, I think I’m going back to bed.

Good night and good morning.

Peace, Love, and Squid.
