Jamie, Lisa, Sam and I drove 5 hours to look at an interesting boat on Fiday. It was a Morgen 45 OS (Off shore) race boat. It had 18 sails and was really built!! It was small (thin) and not so roomy but really looked like she would be a race horse in the sea. Jamie likes her despite she needs everything including a motor, he’s up for replacing it back in Austraillia. The only down side is they are about 7k from cutting a deal, we’ll see.
I’ve also managed to finish the mizzen mast steps and putting up my home built radar mount with Jamie’s help.
We are taking off on Wednesday to Texas. I’ll be visiting old friends and Sam gets to see her sister before we leave for the Bahamas. I’m also making a few bucks during the trip so it all really works out. Jamie and Lisa will drive around florida looking at boats when we are gone. The seats in the back of the car go down so it’s good for car camping.
Splendid is…, Well…., Splendid. She’s really shaping up and it’s nice having company. Jamie and lisa visiting really gives me a good idea of what future charters will be like. Splendid is really comfortable with the 5 of us on board and everyone has good privicy. She is exactly the boat I wanted to buy when I made my mind up to get a new boat in Tahiti. The only surprise was the girls :)
I’m off to see the knee surgen in the morning and probablly going to schedule a scope to fix a miniscus tear in the next couple of weeks. After that we are off like a shot.
Sail far and live slowly.

Where in Texas will you be?
Heya Alex,
If jamie liked that 45, he should like this one as well :) ridiculous price, only thing is it needs to be shipped to the coast, but considering all other things, it may be well worth and and still be in jamies price range.

are you going to see JANA AND Derek–where will guin be and are you sailing or driving–hope the knee is better-i had right knee replaced –
i made a 3:1 purchase harness type thing to get myself to the top of chuck’s mast, and think i prefer it over my mast steps. i’m gonna make another one for my boat, and not put steps on the alberg, i think. my mast steps on Alas are a bit crappier than the ones you obtained, though.
Darrin,
Can you post some more detail on the harness thing. I’m interested in that, I’ve been looking at rock climbing type stuff too, the idea being to be able to get yourself to the top under your own steam. I dont like steps on the mast though.
Cheers,
Chris
Alex:
It’s good things are going together for you. Just got back from the Bahamas, Green Turtle. Trillium had issues that I couldn’t fix, so I’m boatless. The search is on though. I’ll keep you posted. Did you get the Garlic? I’m in hopes.
Later amigo…

Capt Paul, sorry to hear about the boat, and yes, we did get you package, thanks!!!
Jamie ended up buying the 45′ Morgen, it looks like it will be a real race horse.
I’m in Texas with my buddy Hugh finishing up his solar panel install, it’s coming out really, REALLY nice. We are off to Ft. Myers on Sunday, back to Jacksonville on Sunday night, and getting my knee scope on Tuesday. All is good!!!
Peace.

Alex,
I do hope things go well with your knee op. and that the wonderful ladies take good care of you. It sounds like when it comes time to fall off the grid your health will be ready. I’ve just gotten back from being off the grid for the last two months, sailing area the BVi’s on a 45 cat. I know you prefer the other world, but I have a 3 year old and he seems to do better with the level world. Our trip went great and I hated coming home, this was our test to see if we’re ready to completely stay off the grid, and my wife is still a little, well lets say loves the ground. Enough of me, but I’ve not heard much of Darrin later, how is he doing? Will he be going with you guys? Please keep us posted, He’s become part of the big family of Project Blur Sphere. Merry Christmas, my friends, and Have a happy New Year.
