Project BlueSphere

Land and Sea

New and old friends.

DSCN0206Carla and I are really enjoying the charter boat life.

My old friend David and his wife Cindy came for a week visit and we picked up the wayward Charlie and his daughter Monica. We all had a wonderful time swimming, eating (lots of lobster), snorkeling, exploring islands, and and drinking wine ;)

David is the brains behind Project BlueSphere while I provide the content. I think we are a pretty good jarad-5team. We’re  planning a revamp of Project BlueSphere and moving into a word press environment in the not too distant future, too cool!

Carla and I have so much going on these days. We have another charter in 3 weeks, then we go back to Linton where I will leave Carla and Splendid to deliver a boat through the canal and up to DSCN0233Nicaragua. It will be nice to sail in the Pacific again.

After that I’m going to buy 300’ of new 3/8 bbb chain and install my new (used) Lofrans falkon windlass, SO EXCITING!!!!!

We are going to try and book some charters between late July to November in San Blas, so if anyone is interested please let us know. surf

We are working to afford a haul-out which has to happen before we do any long passages. I’ll be installing all new threw-hulls, a packing gland, re-barrier-coating, and painting the hull from the water line to the sheer stripe.

Carla’s dram has been to focus on learning to surf and I’m interested to spend some time surfing too.

splendidchrtI had a very good opportunity to buy Carla a nice surfboard for little money, and in her favorite color, pink. We are planning to sail to Bocas del Toro around November for surfing, surfing, surfing, and maybe some charters too.

I must say I think I’m the luckiest guy around. Freedom, Love, health, and the sea, what more could a guy ask for?

Peace my friends.

  1. HELLO…hello…anybody home? Let’s hear about P.C……

  2. Hi Alex, Congrats on everything, the latests posts have been great. Im curious and have a question for you. I am planning for a year long trip with our family. We have funds for the year… but I want to make plans in case we decide to stay a little longer. :) Its inspiring that you have kept going so long. I hear from most cruising friends that work arrives just in time when that needs arises, but how are you financing it? Just looking for a bit more specifics and hoping for inspiration from that. I know you’ve probably delved into it before on this blog, but estimates on costs and how you earn it.

    Cheers!

  3. Mark,

It’s hard for me to say. I don’t have any bills or financial responsibilities and only need about $300 a month. I charter for $$$, sell a few films here and there and usually only have a few hundred bucks to my name. No retirnemnt or anything an I’m comfortable with it.

Most of my friends just don’t give a shit about money and just kind of go with the lack of of it? It’s a state of mind I guess. If you keep a house or a storage area you’ll be tied to your stuff.

I don’t have any good answers or advice. If you want it, you just have to take it :)

    Peace

  4. G,
I don’t post much because I just don’t have much access to Internet these days :) it’s a good thing!

  5. Hey Alex,
Do you know Jean-Louis Vidal (AKA Winni) aboard Winni Boat?
He’s a French sailor on a 40 ft, sloop rigged Moody. He’s in the mooring field with me in Stuart, Florida. He can speak enough English to make himself understood but I’ve been helping him out at various businesses as he’s making some repairs on his boat. We were speaking about where’s he’s traveled and he said he just left Panama in January. As a joke I asked him if he knew Splendid and you and Carla. Shockingly enough he said he knew a guy who just recently got married to an Argentinian and when I showed him some pictures from your website he said he knew you.
Anyway, I wanted to relay his well wishes for you guys. It’s a small world.
    Lorry
