This picture was taken by my friend Nick the day I left Mystic, CT. (2003) for the world. I refer to it as the “Day number one” picture.
When I think back to who I was then, a decade ago, to who I am now, time stops as I could ponder the differences for an eternity.
I suppose some of my transformation is because I’m older, but the reality is, it’s because I’ve found time for myself. I found a way in this tangled-mess of a society we “live” in to unplug, distance myself, and to reward my efforts with Love and freedom, and not financial gain and ego.
My journey has been long, bumpy at times, but has really brought me where I need to be. Like restoring my sailing dinghy and Splendid, in many ways I’ve been restoring myself and building a man that is more seaworthy and capable.
To restore life to something, or to create it from nothing is a pleasure and worth every ounce of sweat. There is no price I could put on this little dinghy as so much love has been poured into it from both Carla and I.
It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey, right?
Love is the only reason we are here, and the only commodity worth perusing. In no way am I a master, but I intrinsically believe that we can exhibit Love in everything we do.
So, so, so many of my readers plan on starting their sailing/life journey in 2, 4, or 5.8 years from now. They plan on starting when they can “afford” it or once their children are out of the house.
Perhaps I’m naive, but I don’t think our children and loved ones should be holding us back. Perhaps our children will learn how to live life based on watching their parents live their own? Maybe this is the lesson they really need to learn? Perhaps this is a lesson we need to teach ourselves?
For those of you who dream of sailing off one day, start your journey today by searching Craig’s list or eBay and find yourself a sailing dinghy to restore. Restore it as the tender to the boat you don’t have yet and dream about. It may just be the inspiration you need and you’ll have something beautiful you can sail, seems like a plan to me and a big step you could take for only a few-hundred bucks?
My hands are full at the moment preparing for my trip to Argentina. Marriage is not a journey I ever thought I’d take but here it is, yet another gift from the universe, I am so very thankful.
I also want to thank you guys for reading and being there. Project BlueSphere has been such a rewarding experience. It’s brought me so many friends and I’ve learned so much by interacting with a community of peers that have the same dreams as I do.
Man I cant wait to launch little Splendid and get back to rowing with Carla!
Peace.
Sail far and live slowly.

The inspiration you’ve been to me (and so many others, I’m sure) has been….. well I’m speechless!
Have a blast in Argentina and hold on tight for the ride.
Carla…sockit to him!

I havent heard from your dad for the past two years, so I am thinging he has passed–sorry you guys did not have more time togeather–Joe was not an easy person to be around, and I am sorry he is gone, but you have done everything you set out to do, and finding your soulmate is fantastic–best wishes from Sallie And me–keep us informed!–Sallie just asked me when is the wedding, and could we make it?

Man, I am truly happy and proud of where you are in life’s journey right now. Should star this entry 10/22/2013 and lock into memory bank for later reference, but hoping the summit climbs higher as well, sure it will with Carla, she has lifted you up bro. Definitely inspirational as I find myself currently in transition, hope to follow your lead. I do note that you went from a low point feeling stuck and alone in panama, to finding everything you’ve been looking for, without moving geographically, but traveling light years psychologically and spiritually. Proves your point, it is really about love, journey of the soul. What an awesome story you have told, thanks for allowing me in, cant wait for next chapter! Congrats.
Capt. Ron,
My journey is set around a sailboat and voyaging and is not just about it. I have seen so many sailors blast around the world on a 3, or 4 year voyage and miss so much. What I like to inspire and write about is about a minimalistic lifestyle, consuming little, being self sufficient, and living.
If we unwind enough and listen to the world around us our path is very visible. Im not the smartest guy, sailor or writer, but I am usually able to see my path and I believe that is my gift.
Its all about the Love man!
Thanks for the kind words guys. We managed to move out of the Bambu house today (boats a mess) but ill be packing and organizing for the next couple days. We leave on wednesday on a huge trip, marrage and patagonia, wahoooooo!
Carla just posted a new blog, go to members, carla’s journal.
Happy Trails and Best Wishes. I couldn’t comment on Carla’s journal but please tell her I’ve made a couple of her recipes – and I love her writing.
