So Carla and I are busting-ass getting out of the Bambu house, finishing the Dinghy, and preparing for our trip & marriage.
As most of you know, I don’t like moorings & docks. Well I’m a big fat hypocrite because I’ve just put down a mooring.
I hired a few local guys to fill 4, 55 gallon drums of cement. They are all connected with 1/2 chain which runs up to the surface and a big swivel. I’ve dove on the barrels and they are already over a foot settled into the mud.
I decided to put a mooring down as opposed to go to Panamarina because I have friends here to watch Splendid, I don’t have to spend the money for the marina which would have been the same cost as putting in the mooring, and I have something I can sell once I leave next year. We are also planning on doing some day snorkeling charters out of Puerto Lindo and the mooring will be quite convenient.
Carla and I leave at the end of the month for Argentina. Here is the plan.
We fly into Buenos Aires. The next day we bus to Mar Del Plata for two days of surfing. Then off to Puerto Madrin (Patagonia) to snorkel (cold) with seals & check out the Penguins for a few days. Then its off to visit Carla’s sister near Barloche in the mountains of Patagonia. We are going to take a 2 day excursion from there to check out Puerto Mont Chile on the Pacific. After a week we head back To Buenos Aires to get married, then spend 5 days hanging-out with the family & friends at a county house outside of Buenos Aires.
I get tired just thinking of all the running around & buses but it sounds like a hell of a lot of fun!
By the way the buses in Argentina are more akin to flying in the states than the buses. They have first, business & coach class for buses. The sleepers fully recline with private entertainment centers, privacy screens, and food & bar service. We have a few long (12-18) hour trips to do but I think we will be comfortable.
After that I return to Splendid with my wife (weird) and go back to the business of finishing up Splendid so we can go traveling full time.
I still cant believe I’m getting married to by best friend, how cool!
Barloche Patagonia is where Carla called home before we met. If you ever want to Skiing in July you might want to check it out as a holiday destination, they call it the Swiss Alps of the Americas. I’m really excited to see it. Especially to meet Carla’s sister and family who live off the grid in the mountains, they sound like my kind of people.
We are doing this whole trip on a shoestring which is how I really like to travel. And I cant wait for all the Argentine beef, wine, and chocolate!!!
That’s it for today guys. I’m super busy and need to organized. So much do do before we leave.
I hope everyone’s world is as cool as mine!
Peace, Love, and Penguins!

Tincho,
We arrive in Bolson November 8th and go to mallin ahogagado and well be there for a few days. If
you have a car it would be cool to hook up for a drink :) I hear its a beautiful area :)
Peace.
Congratulations. I wish both of you the best on your journey together – in life, love and Splendid. If I was religious I’d say I’ll pray for your happiness. As it is, I’m sending all my good vibes your way. You both deserve happiness. Good luck.
Amazing how the ideal woman can transform a man’s life for the better. The Bluesphere Gods bestowed you with the best gift in life.
Now, about that 1/2 inch chain attached to the barrels on your mooring, isn’t that a bit thin for the long run? I used 4 inch chain attached to 2 inch and then 1/2 inch for last run that won’t be buried and is replaceable every so often. Now I’m feeling like I really overdid it.
Have a great trip.
Yoda mouse, thanks mate. We are on the same line with prayers.
Horatio. Bigger chain will last longer for sure. My 5/16bbb has been under water on my anchor for over 5 yrars and is still fine. Im sure the 1/2″ will last well over a decade. Im planning on leaving within 6 months so its a no brainer for me, plus I didnt have access to any larger chain. If I had to do it again I would have used 50′ of chain and 30′ of rhode as opposed to 80′ of chain. Im in 37′ of totally protected water (no swell) and just have to deal with wind.
Actually the cain cemented and comming out of the barrels is 3/4, and 1/2 to the top Which can be changed as necessary. The 3/4 is big ass chain and plenty, wont rust I the mud either ;)
If you want to bury them use a dive tank with a hose and blow out the mud under the barrels.
There aren’t many times I wish I had a credit card but this is one of them. Ive been looking for a deal on a genset big enough to run my h20 maker. I just got a notification that there is a FP4000 in ft. Lauderdale for $900 like new, somebody should snatch this up, wont last a day.

Alex:
Great post… Busy, buys, busy. I just got up here. It’s been a while.
I’m getting Panacea ready for the sailing season up here and varnishing, cleaning, checking clamps, hoses, wires well you know the drill. Put my hand on a hose clamp the other day and it fell off in my hand. It rusted on the back side and looked and felt great up until it just fell off. That’s why my hand is all over those things no more than a month apart.
All is well. Give me best to Carla and I’m excited about your next month trip. You’re going to have a ball. Stay in touch, I’ll do the same.
