Running a restaurant & bar ?

barI’ve always wanted to have a restaurant & bar and the next 5 months may satisfy that urge. http://panamaguesthouse.com/

Our first week at the bamboo house has been work, work, work.

I think its funny when people say a boat is a “money pit” or a “hole in the water you keep pouring money into”. A house, car, business is so much more complicated & expensive.

Carla and I had to invest about $500 into liquor & food. I also bought a charcoal grill for $100 but we got the restaurant & bar functioning by the weekend. We had a full house (3 rooms/6 people over the weekend) and we did okay. After expenses we only make $80-$100 a night on food & liquor, but with the rooms we made a total of about $400-$500 over the weekend. We aren’t going to get rich but we may pull off the haul-out and making the last push on Splendid’s restoration by November. The only big problem I’m finding is time for Splendid & boat work.work

Sorry I haven’t had a blog up but between Carla and I we don’t have a laptop and I cant blog from the house. I’ve been looking around at deals and found a lenovo G500 for only $268.00 but It’s for in store pickup only, bummer, I want 2 of them.

Here is the link if anyone is looking for a cheap & dependable laptop, I like Lenovo:

www.frys.com/product/7701328

When I was back in the world I used to be a FRYS junkie it’s like Costco for techie stuff!

I’ll get some pictures up of the bar soon, I hope I don’t drink all the profits Sad smile with the rum & cokes flowing!!!

Anyway, I’m off to work. I have two alternators that need to be rebuilt, one in the car, and one in the boat, ARRRRRGGGGGG!!!!

Peace.

Sail far and live slowly!

  1. By the way, to my panama readers, Thursday night at the bambu house is Cala and my birthday party, come for BBQ & drinks, no shirts or shoes required.

  2. I bought a few refurb or scratch and dents from Lenovo Outlet and they were perfect condition. You have to check the site often until you catch the deal you are looking for. Buy an I 5 or I 7 intel machine. Very cheap prices.

  3. Awesome, you two are now living both my wife’s and my dreams. I look forward to the day of sailing off to the tropics and she dreams of running a Bed & Breakfast/Café down in Belize. Thanks for the inspiration

  4. Jason, I’m keeping my on the Lenovo outlet for sure. I don’t need something too powerful, mostly for blogging. I have an I7 box on Splendid, I just can’t travel with it and it burnes a lot of amps when I use it but its awsome for cutting and rendering video.

    Thanks for the tip.

    Peace.

  5. Its funny, I gave a solid week of trying to sleep on land and it just doesn’t work for me. I can never manage more than a few hours sleep, I really feel uncomfortable away from splendid. I came back to sleep on-board last night and slept like a baby for 7 glorious hours.

It’s going to be fun running the bambu house for the next 5 months but I know I’ll never be a land/house/car guy ever again. There is no amount of money in the world that could keep me from living on the sea, I cant wait to start traveling again!!!

  6. Even though I despise ALL bugs, those are really cool bugs! Nice aerodynamics, kinda like hot-rods. Actually, I don’t mind bugs if they stay away from me. But if they get close, I need to know if they are a “live and let live” bug, or a “die motherf&^%” bug.
That is a noisy jungle. No wonder you can’t sleep. Being a sound engineer, if I can’t identify a sound, my paranoia baptizes it as life threatening and I freak!
5 months, eh. Welcome back to terra firma!
