Bumm’n

I’ve been really down over the last few days. My uncle is loosing his house to a tax sale. My grandparents paid off the house in the 80’s, but for whatever reason he has not able to pay taxes on it for many years. The hammer falls on Tuesday and he needs to be out, they lock the doors. I grew up in that house; most of my childhood memories took place there like Christmas and learning to ride a bike.

He lost his store a while back and is old. I’m going to try and find out on Monday if there are public options for his shelter, it’s all really quite heartbreaking. He tells me he doesn’t have an ID card or a birth certificate so I don’t really know where to start. I think his heart and mind are starting to wander with age and I don’t really know what I can do.

It’s got me thinking though. Sam Guin and I are so safe on Splendid. No one is going to come and take her away, we are free to live as we wish, and if we don’t like it, we can just go to another island or country. It also enables us not to be tied to a job or need to make much money.

I don’t remember the quote from Pirates of the Caribbean but it was something to the effect that “a ship is not just wood, decks, line, and cloth, a ship is freedom” and it’s quite true! Splendid gives us the opportunity to focus on the important things in life such as food, love, and keeping our hearts and minds full of dreams and laughter.

I know I’m still part of the system, but I make that part as small as possible. That philosophy means having little, and not being dependant on fossil fuels (i.e. refrigeration, cars, or heating). I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. My goal is to have as little as possible. Why is it that so many people feel the need to acquire as much as they can? When I worked in Hollywood I was one of them, and I must say, as soon as I changed my view I’ve been happy ever since. We all need to weigh our success with happiness, not financial gain, we’ll be better men for it.

I feel a bit guilty today. I have less than $50.00 (didn’t get paid yet) and I’m scouring the internet looking for a spinnaker. My uncle has less money than I do and is trying to figure out how to put a roof over his head and is at the bottom of his world. What’s wrong with this picture?

Sorry to vent a bit, I just write what goes through my head…, well actually my heart.

Sam and I had a fight last night which isn’t like us. This morning I realized I just need to let it go. We all have our paths to follow and I hope my uncle finds his. I can tell you that more then once when I thought my world was crashing down and something wonderful came from it.

Peace everyone.

But the pain to reach that sometimes makes us let it roll lots os tears, but at the end we are going to realise how important it was to make us a better humanas.

Remember that old saying, “a rich man has the curse of money, a truly wealthy man has the luxury of time!”
You can spend or lose your money, but, you will never lose your life experiences. I’ll be back on Frosty’s Fantasy in
10 days at the Deltaville boatyard preparing to relaunch and rejoin the cruising lifestyle. Hope to cross your path again and see your new floating home.

I got a spar room.. it’s in NC znc it’s not the most comfortable place to live, but I like it. the plus side..it’s cheap and in the country. it will not cost any more then I pay now to have a roomy.
the down side is the ac will freeze you out when it finally start cooling…in those 90 + deg. days it might take awhile. we are in the country so the nearest store is over priced and about a mile away…ok it’s a feed mill that sells other stuff too. I have a catand he’s just like me..a slob. I have a deep freezer that is about empty and needs a good cleaning. the house is not in bad shape but t could use some things repaired. the extra bath room is in need of nw guts in the toilet..less the $14 worth of parts, and has no tub…it was stolen from the yard while we were working on the pipes. I’m useing for extra storage along with my room. I can clean them out. but I will need help if I have do it in a hurry. I’ll need help with food and stuff that we’ll go through. toilet supplies..paper towels..laundry soap and dish soap.. you know the stuff. lol.
it’s not much but it’s the best I can offer.

Saw this on a move the other day, later when it sank in, the tears came “Happiness is nothing unless shared”.

    Vent all you want mate!

  11. hearsejr,

You really made my day. I may have found an option for him but I’ll talk to him about it.

this is this kind of activity that makes be want to get “operation “TRAKS” (Totally Random Acts of Kindness) off the ground. People should help people! When we do…, I should say when ‘I do’, great things always come from it.

I spoke to a lawyer and the house is gone, it is what it is. There was also a condo left to him which tax’s haven’t been paid for either but only about 10k is owed. I’m hoping to work something out to get him in the condo, we’ll see.

Man do I want to go sailing! If he was at all the type of guy for a boat I’d have him in something but it would truly be like putting a fish in a field.

    Alex

  12. you are a good man-you have been rewarded .

  13. hearsejr@yahoo.com

I’ll be glad to have him over for a spell. I was going to ask ya if he was into boating.. I know where to find cheap or free boats..lol. let me know how things are going, I’ll be on def-con 4 alert and ready to clean the house, the yard, and the cat up for inspection..lol. ——Bill

Arent some people so nice! :o)) go for it “nothing good comes easily”

  15. Robin,

Funny thing is I have to disagree. Everything came so easily for me as soon as I ‘let go’, and I’ll tell you my secret. At least it works for me.

I have a weird thing I do. Many times throughout the day, I simply ask myself ‘ Positive or negative’ and follow the positive. I’ve walked away from a lot of money and opportunities because of this but it always turns out for the best. I think we all know the difference between right and wrong, legal and illegal, and positive and negative but many dismiss it as not being so important or financially viable. For me…, following the positive is my road map to happiness, it is my path. Money is control, and I will not be controlled. Remember the quote from above:

“a rich man has the curse of money, a truly wealthy man has the luxury of time!”

My Uncle didn’t follow the law and the system is throwing him under a bridge. This may be the best thing that ever happened to him, I can only hope so. For me, my catalyst was finding out my fiancee was having an affair, and I walked away from my career and everything else I owned. Walking away. Positive, or negative? Positive! Living on little and not squandering, positive or negative? Riding a bike instead of owning a car, positive or negative? Working for someone, or something you don’t believe in, positive or negative? This is my road map. The problem is most people know the path, but they don’t care.

I’ve written a lot of words over the past 7 years and If anyone ever quotes me I hope it’s on the last words of the last article I wrote for Latitudes and Attitudes. It’s something I realized the first time I saw land after crossing the Pacific.

‘Fear guards the gates of freedom’!

Walk the path at all cost!

    Cheers.

    – Alex

  17. ‘Fear guards the gates of freedom’!

    couldn’t agree more.

  18. Emily really really loves that quote Alex, just wanted to let you know. I think she might have a small crush on you, Just kidding. I just wanted to make you smile for a bit.

  19. blowinganddrifting

Yup, as simple as “do the right thing” . Sounds easy doesn’t it? Well it’s not always easy, but it is still the right thing.
Chrissy and I put our lives on hold for the past couple years for parents and sister. We are much wiser, and stronger too, maybe even more appreciated/respected, what ever.
You are on the right path, er eh imean tack!!!
    Keep it up. Dean

ps. I just picked a 5gal. pail of fresh FREE hopps!! Got a mailing address?

  20. hearsejr@yahoo.com

    Howdie, Alex..
Does your uncle have any medical issues? if so he can go through Charles T Hall law firm …the get paid only if you win the case…and they will help with everything from getting temp. medicaid, to getting full Disability. it took me 3 years, and I got back pay when I won, and paid my boat off. yall just come on down to ol’ NC, and I’ll get you set up.

on a side note, I might need help and a dredge, to clean out the room. lol. I got a folding single bed, like the holiday inn used to have, with a nice comfy thick mattress. so now I just need to torch a few cardboard boxesclean the carpet, and moved the book case out.

  21. hearsejr@yahoo.com
