3:30 Am

We dropped the hook about 8:30 last night on the S. side of Rodriguz key and I was asleep by 9pm. I got up to a very quiet and still world around 3:30 am, put on a pot of coffee, raised the main, and got the anchor up. After a few minutes of motoring I looked up and saw the tri-color lights (Nav lights) are out. I turned on the steaming light and put up an all around white. I’ll have to fix that ASAP.

It’s so quiet and peaceful this morning. There is no moon and it’s good to be at the helm and under way. Splendid is such a good boat.

I’m speaking to my buddy Jamie on the email. He is Australian and just completed his circumnavigation in a little 25, or 26’ Tophat (Possibilities). He is thinking of coming to Florida to look for a bigger boat to continue on. I told him about all the deals to be had in Florida and he may come for a visit. If anyone knows of a great boat with a hole in the side or something that needs a good fix’n and is cheap, let me know.

Anyway, I’m going back to my dark world. The screen from my laptop is burning out my night vision.

Cheers.

Alex

  1. Well good morning my long distance freind, Today seems to be starting out great for you and the still a sleep family. It was great news to hear that Darrin had made it to you guys and will be traveling a long side of you. Well today is an great for another sailor, but this very young 17 teen year old will be finishing his sailing trip around the world today. Zac Sunderland out of Marine Del Ray, Ca. will be pulling into port at 10:00a.m. this morning. He will set the worlds record, being the youngest person to sail around the world. I can’t evem amagine what all he has done and only 17 teen. The coverage of Zac Sunderland will be on Fox News & CNN today. Go to google and type in “Zac’s Blog” this will get you all the latest news. You being a sailor I thought you might like a little bite of great sailing news.

It’s great to hear the freedom over flowing in your words, man what I would die to have thaa feeling. Alex makes for allowing our dreams to live thru you and your new found family. What a man. How you go and enjoy your time on the water and tell Darrin that the followers say Hello as well. Thanks Rodney

  2. After a cup of coffee, I read over my latest blog to you, and man I know now that I should not even try to type or think before having my first cup of coffee. Sorry for the bad english, and miss used words. I hope you got the point. Anyway enjoy your coffee and the true since of freedom what comes with being Alex.

  3. Sail on man!!! We are with you!! Actually Chrissy and I slept on board last night (in marina), just sitting on board with a coldie, I could feel the weight comming off my shoulders. It feels so good to be on board!!

    Happy NORTHWARD sailing,
    Dean

  4. You’re looking good on Spot. Keep getting north brother. Happy Birthday. We leave on Sunday for 12 days to cross Lake Ontario and back in the Catalina 25. Another chance to practice. Life is Good.

    Peace.

  5. Alex have a good and thanks for the logs. Its like i’m out there with you.

    CHEERS….

  6. Happy belated birthday. Glad to see you moving again. Enjoy your journey as I enjoy reading about it.

    Thanks!

  7. I got a nice surprise today. As you probably read from the log above I need new bulbs for my tri-color navigation lights. All I can say is “Thanks Curt”. Curt made a nice donation that will cover the cost of new bulbs. I’m going to get the LED replacements as they draw less and last much longer. Curt wrote a nice piece in the last log. I know there has been a lot of talk about JD lately and it brings up a good point. Project BlueSphere.com does cost money. I’d never be able to keep this site alive if it wasn’t for the help of my friends David (www.summerworks.us) , and Ken from College who handles sending out DVD’s and a few subscribers (Martin & David T.). Believe it or not I get over 500,000 hits a month and about 75,000 page views. Project BlueSphere is a popular site. Yet I only have a few subscribers and DVD sales are in the dump (economy???). I’m lucky if the site brings in $150.00 a month. Think of Project BlueSphere like public radio. If you like it, please feel free to make a donation or become a subscriber. You can do it for as little as $4.95 a month. If you cant afford it please continue to enjoy it.

I just got an AT&T aircard which is costing me $60.00 a month so I can upload more videos. I’ll have 2-3 a month going up now. Anyway, I don’t like talking about the money but if you like the site and can afford it please chip in a few bucks.

Check out the SPOT.. Splendid is sailing in 8-14 feet of crystal clear water. It’s hard to watch it go by and not worry about running aground. You can see every blade of grass on the bottom.

We are going to take an easy day today and anchor around Key Biscayne. I’ll get another early start in the morning and make Ft. Lauderdale 2morrow.

P.S. – Larissa blew out her damper plate on the C&D Canal, I have a good story to tell now. I am putting her back in the water at Summit North Marina on 7/27.

  9. I am glad to see you up and going again. I have been following you from the start as my dream is to cruise also. We plan on moving to the coast in 3 to 4 years and doing the east coast.
