It’s been one of those days.
We had a really bad odor in the head and after a short inspection I saw the selector valve for the holding tank cracked in half, pooooooo!
I got a new valve at west marine and proceeded to cover myself in the contents of the holding tank. We got pumped out this morning but there was still a gallon or so floating around. I found myself sitting in a 95 degree head covered in poop, with my tools scattered around. I got to thinking, ‘got to be a bright side rite”, and there is. Sam and Guin get a non-smelly bathroom and a good ship to sail upon.
Well I’ll be 44 tomorrow. I hardly have a few bucks in the bank but I feel like the richest guy in the world. Sam and Guin are happy, Splendid is…, well, Splendid, and I’m living the life I want. I have to bust my ass every day for it but what the hell right? I could be busting my ass for someone else.
I think we are sailing North 2morrow afternoon. I’d like to take off with Darrin but he has a boat project or 2. We’ll meet up in Stuart. I want to be sailing on my birthday.
I’m off to the Dockside bar & Grill with Sam and Guin for a cocktail.
Live is good even covered in pooooo.
– Alex
i should be ready to go by tomorrow afternoon.
got a couple small projects to take care of, and need to get some fuel, but nothing i can’t handle between now and tomorrow morning.
today was very productive, albeit extremely expensive.
cruisin’ kitty is laughable at this point. it’s more like my “i hope i make it” fund!
going to sea with a new motor i haven’t tested thoroughly kind of frightens me. …but i suppose i didn’t start living this life to be complacently idle, either.
The motor is actually a short shaft, so i hope the seas are fair while i am easting.
Wish me luck.

Hi, Sammy, Alex, Guin, Jaime and I spent the last two days on the Bohemia River with Jaime’s mom and dad on his 26 ft. cruising boat with Ben and his girlfriend Dana. We were thinking about you guys. I got Bubby and Pop Mike all hooked up to visit your website. Bubby aka “garden” is super excited about following you. We are flying back to San Diego tomorrow, wish we could be in Maryland when you get there. Talk to you soon, hope you are enjoying the good life! Love you
Happy Birthday Alex and thank you for keeping our sis and niece safe. Covered in Poo for the ladies…your my kinda guy!!!
Ahhhh… The “Y” valve… Makes you wonder that there must be a better way. I’ve been there a couple of times. I tell my charters when they get onboard, “There’s two things that are the most important things on the boat, the head and the engine. With those, I can sail the world…”
Well wash your hands and have a GREAT birthday. I love the Dockside… My favorite ‘ol t-shirt, in yellow. Lot’s of good memories of that place and the lending library, in the laundry room was wonderful. Loaded with Practical Sailors when I was there…
The best to the family and sail safe my friends…

Happy Birthday Alex. Havent been able to keep up lattly but I watch the dvds i got from you all the time dreaming of the day ill make it out there. best of luck to you and yours
New motor – Installed, locked down and running smooth as poo from a duck’s… uhhh… nevermind.
I think I might actually be able to get some decent speed out of Alas with this thing. She’s zippy!
So, for tomorrow:
-Stow dinghy
-Clean up a little bit (still a little messed up from the break-in)
-Go to Advanced Auto and buy a couple more jerry cans, filling them up on the way back (i love my workhorse bike!)
-Quick stop at grocery store for provisions
I should be ready by noon for sure, but most likely earlier if i move even half as fast as i did today.
I gave the owner of this dock just over half of what we agreed upon because I lost around 1000$ worth of stuff. He agreed that it was fair, especially considering my week (i.e. airport losing tools, getting robbed, hit by a truck, etc..)
For the first time in DAYS i am in a really good mood. Knowing that i will be leaving tomorrow has given me a new lease on life.
A manana!

Happy Birthday Alex. Hope everything goes perfect for you.
Good Morning Alex,
I just turned 47 on the 12th your 3 years and one 1 younger, but you’ve sailed half way around the world, and something is very very wrong with this picture. Sorry I missed you blog yesterday, work had me hopping. I’m so proud that there is still good time to be true to “YOURSELF” and it looks that you are and with a bonce. Your getting to share it with your new family and us the followers. His I like out the window I see the most beautyful sun rise, and I can only imagine what your morning is like. Not only the morning sun, but the sounds, the smiles, “No pun intended”, the raw freedom of life it’s self. Yes, I can imagine that yesterday was great. It’s the best gift you could have been giving and you gave it to yourself. I would call that a wise move. When I read your blog, I think of the show “Dirty Jobs” but not even he gets to sail around in freedom. Yes, I wish for you that the sea stay clam, the sun shines bright, and I wish you a wonderful belayed Birthday Alex. Sad to hear about Darrin luck lately, but I know you two will fix anything together, you’ve truly became great freinds. It must be very nice to be sailing together and having a great working crew as well. Well I’ll got off so someelse can talk, be sure that I truly support “ProjectBlueSphere” with all I can. GO HAVE ANOTHER GREAT DAY ON THE WATERS, AND SEND US ALL PICS & VIDEOS, We love that stuff..
Your unknow freind and follower,
Rodney Guffey
Happy Birthday Alex!
LET’S GO SAILING…. like RIGHT NOW
:-)

I have read the logs over the past few weeks to catch up. It sure gets old reading the logs w/ a constant hint of begging in them. Almost EVERY log is asking for money, items, something else.
Another perfect example is this one as well;
“I’ll be 44 tomorrow”. – ie.HOW ABOUT SOME PRESENTS……
WHY BECAUSE “I hardly have a few bucks in the bank”
“I have to bust my ass every day for it but what the hell right? ” ……ie. I’m working in a way so pay me people
AND NOW “I’m off to the Dockside bar & Grill with Sam and Guin for a cocktail.” ……. ie THIS IS WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES SO PLEASE SEND ME MORE DRINKING FUNDS.
I feel like I’m reading my child’s summer camp letters. How about you stop spending money on over priced cocktails at a bar and you wont have to beg so much. And it’s not just this log. They’re all full of how I want, I need but I don’t have then a slap in the face with, I bought this even though it’s not needed, to big, an over kill, nicer than the rest. SOME OF US IN THE REAL WORLD are battling w/ job loss, home loss, retirement loss and the list goes on & on.
Find a way to live off the land like you originally started out to do w/ the whole “leave it all behind and sail away” mentality.
DUDE, what the hell are you talking about?
If that is really how you read that, you should probably go back to reading your kids camp letters!
And the “SOME OF US IN THE REAL WORLD” SH@T wtf? Whether you like it or not or are just jealous WE are in the real world…without all that materialistic crap land dwellers worry over.
James
p.s. Happy B-day Alex.
J
Wojtec,
Good to hear from you mate. I see your taking care of Namaste.Rodney, Thanks for all the kind words I’ll have some more video and pictures up shortly.
Chano,No plans here my friend, just cruising. All I know is we’ll be heading back down to the carribean after the big wind blows.
JD
Shure your not my Dad. You have the same initials and negative attitude. Sorry the “Real World” is treating you so poorly, I hope it gets better for you, but begging…? It would be nice if I got enough donations to pay for the website, cameras, bandwidth and all the other stuff it takes to keep it running, but it doesn’t. I invest my time and money so people like you can write negative crap on my website so others can enjoy it. So have a nice day…, really. That is secret code for well, you know.
Cheers everyone.- Alex
Thanks James,
Say hi to everyone in Ft Myers from us.
DUDE are you serious?
If that is really how you read that you should probably go back to reading your kids camp letters!
“There is only one success in life: to live your life in your own way.”
And by the way”SOME OF US IN THE REAL WORLD” we are in the real world Just without all the materialistic crap land dwellers worry over.
James
p.s. Happy B-day Alex.

Alex, This site is driving me batty today.
Asks for a code then shunts to the video page without letting me know that the previous comment went up.
AAARRGGHHHH.
J
Hi guys…this is Linda. I set this account up for Big Mike so we both can check in on you..
Alex, This log really cracked me up and gives me a chance to bust on you:
Sh-t Happens….
Same Sh-t, different day…
Talk about opening up your mouth to scream and falling into a sh-t pit…..
Did Sammy wipe you when you were done?
Interesting “crack” that came out of…
Save the big piece for me!!
You see, in the years B.C. (“before children”) I worked as the accountant at a landfill (near exit 7 of the NJ turnpike) that took this “stuff” dewatered, and I still remember the smell even after 25 years…one develops a certain mutated sense of humor about it. If you can’t laugh at your troubles, crawl into a hole and just die (this last comment is for JD).
On a more serious note- if you had any sores, or subsequently develop any open lesions, please see a Dr. , ASAP. There’s nasty things growing in that stuff. Nothing like a flesh-eating bacteria to ruin your day. so be careful, OK?
So go take a bath in some industrial strength disinfectant just to make sure. Better safe than sorry.
-Linda (aka MomOf2Docs)
Alex, Happy B-day to you…at 44…Magnum. D
Hay guys, I just uploaded a video to bluesphere.tv from this morning, been workin on it for the last 3 hrs and Sam wants me off the computer.

Happy B-day Alex, I recall a line from the movie “Ghandi”. A rich benefacter tells Ghandi ” It costs me a fortune to keep you in your poverty.” Tip one back for me, Wade
hey all, sam here… what a beautiful birthday morning in boot key, all is very mellow (after coming down from the chocolatey sugar high:) we are looking forward to a nice hot shower( i did the finish work cleaning in the poo locker and was glad to do it after the” taking one for the team” alex did yesterday ) and then hopefully a birthday sail … the more i get to know this site and those who have been with alex for so long the more i come to appreciate and value the family i have gained by proxy… in contrast, i suppose there always must be a sour apple or two for balance but as someone who intimately knows alex dorsey and is also grateful for the ability to live so life rich, i must say jd your interpretation of a heartfelt impending birthday reflection as a plea for money is way off base… we revel in our ability to live amazingly beautiful full lives with our focus not on the dollar bill, and never for one moment do i think either of us (alex having lived this dream for so much longer then i, the newbee that i am:) forget how fortunate we are ( even when covered in poo)… our system can be such a downer but we can’t let it break our spirits or force a dark cast over light spaces in our souls… in letting go i know i struggled with it often… there are real pieces of work in this world who will take until you have nothing and will never have enough to make them happy- alex dorsey is not one of these…
-sam
Hey jd, you poor guy, don’t worry, I will feel sorry for you, probably no real friends with your attitude. Thanks for reminding us regularly happy people that there are some real crybabies out there in the cyber world. I see alot of it in comments on you tube too.
