Well, I don’t really know what to make of Guin.
I was really expecting her to be seasick, crying, and uncomfortable, oh contraire, she likes Grandma Splendid rocking her. Like “rock a bye baby” she says.
We are on a mooring in Boot Key harbor. The city has taken almost the entire harbor and made it a mooring field so nobody can anchor. That’s progress I guess.
We will be her a day or two getting laundry done and visiting with Darrin. His boat got ransacked while he was gone and a bunch of stuff has gone missing. After that it’s up to Stuart to see my buddy Chuck before continuing North.
Peace everyone.

That pic is a real classic. You should submit it to Latitudes & Attitudes magazine for publication. Spot tracking is very cool by the way.
Very cool shot of Guin. A pleasant surprise. Our thoughts are with you and since I didn’t get a chance to try the Orange Port, could you put up a link for the recipe or company you got the system through. I have some time in the summer to make some wine… Thanks Amigo.
Peace…

I’m so glad Guin is enjoying Splendid, and that you are finally underway. I really enjoyed watching your progress on SPOT.
The other sailboat you encountered sounds weird. The last time I took her to the keys, there were some strange people with expensive boats and no brains. One guy came sailing into Little Shark River on a large spendy sailboat, which impressed me, but instead of anchoring where he had control (even imaginary) he brought his boat into the calm area, then yelled at the boats already anchored to get out of his way. Turns out he thought he had engine trouble, but was out of fuel. In Naples a powerboat pulled directly in front of me, then put his boat in neutral while he went to the cooler for a beer – like I could just stop Splendid. Then after I managed not to ram him, he took pictures of Splendid. Lots of reasons to be cautious. When I’ve done overnights I’ve also encountered fishing boats with nets out farther than I thought they should have been.
Enjoy Boot Key. It’s a really fun place. Guin should be able to see some pretty tropical fish off the docks, and around sun down the lobsters come out. The mangroves are fun to go through in the dingy, and if you’re still there on Sunday night, there’s a jam session at Dockside. My elderly deaf cat used to waddle down there to feel the beat and watch the dancers, and one night, while I was at work, she went home with someone else. A total boat bum cat, and she loved Splendid.

Matthew has helped me figure out how to get on your site and I am pleased. Jaime is here and we had a wonderful breakfast and a splendid visit. I tried to call you, but couldn’t get through. So happy things are going well. Call when you can, I will be following your journey. Love Bubby!!!
i found a Honda 9.9 4-stroke longshaft that would probably shove Alas along nicely for 450$
it’s around ’99 or so..
it will cost me like 450-500 bucks to get the parts i need for Alas’ current ancient outboard, and i would have to wait a week for the parts to come.
NOT gonna happen.
i hate using a tiller outboard on a sailboat. the boat’s tiller tilted backwards (so moving the tiller to starboard, makes the boat turn to starboard…. WEIRD), and hanging half off the transom controlling the throttle/shifter.
but hey! i’m gonna do it anyway!
Alas was desperately in need of a new set o’ legs anyway.
the yamaha i have now has some issues with not staying tilted up while sailing, so i get some extra drag.
Alas isn’t the speediest of boats!
i think i’m going to go back there and pays my monies, and have my funs.
TIME TO SHIP OUT
