What a great party we had. Jim, the owner of the store cooked some great pig and played guitar for us. He had written some custom songs that brought a little tear to many of our eyes. When he stopped Guin started crying and he had to do an encore. In the last year Sam and I made some really nice friends here. We has 25-30 guests attend.
Our canvas isn’t quite done and we are pushing our next departure date to this following Saturday, depending on weather of course.
We will sail down to Marathon, go under the 7 mile bridge and head north up to the Fort Lauderdale inlet. After that we will chug up the ICW to Stuart to hang out with my buddy Chuck for a few days. After that it will be off shore to Beaufort N.C. then up the ICW to the Chesapeake. I’m really looking forward to sailing Palmico sound and the Chesapeake. Darrin may even follow us up there.
Sam and I are provisioning and getting our ship together. It’s all so exciting.
One thing we really have to do is find Sam a dentist. She needs a new crown and onlay. It’s crazy how expensive dental work is. I wish I could bring her to my dentist in Panama. We are looking at about a grand (With Insurance), what is the point of paying for insurance? Stuff like this makes me crazy sometimes. We really do need a better healthcare system.
Anyway, enough of that GRRRRRRRRRR
Sail far and live slowly.

Hey Alex, just a bit off topic but here goes…We are 36 months from selling everything in Binghamton, NY(daughter graduates) and heading to Sarasota to stay with my brother(essentially free) while we shop for a sailboat for the two of us. Is the Southeast the best place to buy a “fixer-upper” or should we consider another area of the country/world? Are prices the same across the country?
Great party, thanks for the invite. It was good meeting Jim and Martha as well as a host of other people you have met down here. You will be missed. Sam and Gwen are jackpots. You are truly a blessed man be grateful. I’ll call you today. I have a dentist that may be good for Sam. He works well with sailors down here. Once again… Thanks.
Capt. Paul
Florida is most defiantly the place to shop for fixer upper sailboats. I flew here from Tokyo to shop for a boat, and I’d say it is the cheapest place in the world.
Capt. Paul, I’ll give you a call today, we really need to find Sam someone quick, I had to give her pain killers yesterday, it’s our first priority today.
Jim, maybe we an meet in Stuart? I really need to get out of Florida for the hurricane season. I’m freak’n out as it is. You know my number 1 rule is not to be in hurricane or cyclone season anywhere in the world. Stuart is knd of close to you???
Anyway, off to find a dentist.
Cheers.
Alex
Hey Alex!
I just wanted to THANKS again for pointing me in the right direction to start the cruising lifestyle! I made it all the way from Gig Harbor, WA up thru the San Juan’s and British Columbia and the Alaska Inside Passage! I’m back at work in the Philippines, but I’m THIS CLOSE to taking an EXTENDED leave of absence and going farther North to Glacier Bay then doing a U-turn and heading to Panama and turning right for the South Pacific! I loved every-minute of the 17 day trip, even when it was COLD AND RAINING, it was just awesome! So, good luck on your next adventure and THANKS AGAIN! RICK

You didn’t invite me to the party :( I sat by the phone and waited all week weeping when I didn’t get the call….
Alex if you should happen to pull into the St. Augustine inlet on the way up north, drop me a note. I’d love to meet you and the gals in person, take you out to dinner, and show you the tourist stuff if you have time. I’m still an armchair sailor but your life has been a real inspiration to me.

Second thought
Are ya feelin a little more human now?
J
Yup, feel’n better. I’d been pretty sick the past few days. When is good for you to help with the bottom? How bout Thursday? Sam is getting a root canal on monday so we are looking at Next Wed now. I want to check with the core to see if I can go through the lake???
Alex
Keep me advised as to what your doing. Stuart is 70 miles from my house so I will try to get up with you then or on your way by Malabar. Remember you can stop here for any of your last needs, sort of the last stop off on the way up. Are you going out at Ft Pierce ?? or out at Cape Canaveral?? If the Shuttle is on the Pad you will see it when going out. You don’t have to worry about any Hurricanes till at least August the water is not warm enough yet to support a major storm. Our summer thunder storms can be fun sometimes. MOST of the major storms are August to October.

Alex,
When do you plan on being in the Mid Chesapeake Bay area? Would like to give a wave from my boat when you get up here. I am at Casa Rio, which is on Cadle Creek. Cadle Creek flows into the Rhode River and we have some fantastic anchorages over by high island. The Rhode, which is off the West is about 13 miles SSW of Annapolis. Cold beers waitin’.

I get the feeling you will have plenty of support of all kinds while heading North (ooh that word is cold). Just put out the word and they will come!!!!!
No problem mon, Dean
