Project BlueSphere

Land and Sea

Heart Broken!

I signed up for the extra work today (AHHHHHHHHH!!!!). I’ll be staying until the 15th – 20th ish???? Well it’s not confirmed but I think it’ll happen. When I got back to my room I started looking at pictures in my camera and I must admit tears came to my eyes when I look at the pictures of my new family. I really do love them so much! It’s funny. I sailed half way around the world alone and never got lonely. Now I’m stuck on a ship with thousands of people and I have a very heavy heart. I don’t know how I’ll make it through the next weeks of 12 plus hours a day, seven days a week, and without my people.

One cool thing is the “Golden Princess” is sailing for Alaska and I’ll get a chance to see it, I hear it’s amazing. The other cool thing is I’ll have a bunch more money for the kitty. As soon as I get back to Florida I’m sailing back up into the Gulf so that Sam’s friend can give Splendid a new suit of canvas (Dodger, Bimini, sail covers, and so on). I’ll be ordering my anchor, chain, and parts for a water maker. I may get a wind generator as well, we’ll see how the money turns out at the end of the trip. I do know I’ll be taking Sam out for a romantic dinner and sharing a bottle of wine. Speaking of wine. Sam started cooking our first batch of chocolate port last weekend, my fingers are crossed.

I don’t even know what day it is. I dread the 3 alarm clocks in the morning (5:30am), and I cant seem to get into a rhythm until after lunch, the mornings hurt.

I’m so touched at the comments on my logs. I have so many friends that I’ve never met, and people who really seem to care. I don’t know what Project BlueSphere means to people, but all I can say it’s magical for me. I rally hope Sam will start writing her own log, as well as Guin as soon as she can manage. My hopes are for it to become a “family adventure”.

Peace everyone.

Sail far, Love, and work your ass off for what you want!

– Alex

  1. Alex,
Forget the wind gen, solar is more effective in more situations… just work it out.
Get the canvas, but not new, rejuvinate the old. add a full cockpit enclosure instead, it’ll be like a new room addition :)
keep as much money as possible!!!! you didn’t earn it for nothing! Not that those things are nothing, but I have recently become very aware of how much I waste…. Its too easy! and you are not in your right mind my friend. wait a few weeks before you buy, then decide. after a few weeks, you might not need it at all. and money in the bank equals more time cruising. always remember, you can buy it in Columbia just the same as you can buy it here!

Just my opinion, God bless you and good luck. (and see previous post!)

  2. A wind generator balances a good alternative energy system, and quite an important one in my book. The canvis work is being done for free, I’m just going to pay for materials and make a video for her website, good deal eah???

  3. yes good deal :)

I shoulda known you would be looking out for the right deals…

I just wanted to make the point not to get caught up in the ‘i want/need’ sorta stuff… It tends to happen when we make money. But!!! you have proven yourself many times, I think you have figured this stuff out long before any of us, so I’m glad to see that is still true. Not that I doubted :) just keepin you on your toes :D

So Keep it up, thats why we love you :)

  4. Alex just think how it will be when you get back to your family how you will smile.I don’t know but it seems your boat is getting a bit complicated, might try to simplify a bit and get going sailing.
What BlueSphere means to people. I for one have enjoyed your logs so much. While I do sail I can’t go more than a few days north or south no time too plugged in so your logs bring me to places I can only dream about. Your logs/writing slows me down it’s a brake from the fast life a nice brake. I wish there were more good people like you in the world. It’s funny I drive to work in my Jeep at 55/65mph (slow lane) down the freeway and watch all these people driveing 80, 90mph just to get to work cutting each other off getting in accidents. You have the right idea you have it made.
Anyway get done with your work and get sailing.
    Tim.

  5. Simply you inspear us, I think your the right man for the job and your boss thinks the same or he wouldn’t ask you to stay. He also see’s a man with a mission, just like himself. His is just on a larger skill. Alex you do have people that care all around the world. You’ve touched lives in ways that words can’t describe. They say for every action is a reaction, and your is waiting in Fl. I read your words and their seem to be coming from the heart and not the head. What a life changing event, HA Alex, with a family, the man that did everything in his past alone, go figure. Well is why your heart tugs at you, Yes, there is bigger plans for you than you could ever thought of, I believe your life has you knew changed when you stepped on the ship. When humans are removed from their everyday lives and placed into a changed life, even if it’s for a short time, we start looking at what values to us, I feel this is when life begins. This trip has all ready done more for you than money, it’s shown you value. You’ve typed logs for years and now we see a changed man. Your not only talking about Splendid, and parts or places to go, but a new found life. I remember when you said in your log, “WHy am I buying a sail boat that needs so much work, when I just finished one? Now you know why you had to go to Fl. and buy Splendid. To find your family and your place in life. Now go get some work done, get some rest when you can and enjoy Alaska has much as you can. Thanks for sharing your feelings as well as your dreams.

That bimini had less than a year of exposure on it, and full screens and plastic enclosures. The screens I bought when I purchased Splendid and the plastic is ? old. The main cover is also with only a year of sun exposure. Are you changing color?

And no more digs to Fort Myers. If you hadn’t been there you wouldn’t have met your family, so you were in the right place at the right time and the universe provided! Fort Myers should be viewed as a sacred place for you.

    Bust ass, make bank.

  8. Alex, not sure how you are traveling back to Florida (car or air). Anyway if you happen to pass through Pensacola, FL and need a place to stay overnight hit me up.

  9. I can’t speak for anyone else, but PBS has had a huge impact in my life. I first came across your videos about a year ago, (I misspelled part of my search, ‘west sale’ and instead typed in ‘westsail’ on youtube,) and it got me motivated to learn about sailing and maybe buy a boat. Now it looks like I will sell my house and buy a boat instead, hopefully by next season. I’ve already got rid of one car and am remodeling the house to put it up on the market.

Anyway, before I decided to do this my life was miserable. Similar story to yours; insane girlfriends, 70 hour work weeks, etc… Nothing was fun, nothing was good. I had all the latest toys, a new car, but it didn’t make me happy. Thankfully I’ve managed to make adjustments and cut out a lot of the insanity. Even my friends are noticing the difference.

I don’t think I’m brave enough to circumnavigate just yet, but at least I’ve found a better way to live my life–and that’s thanks to you and all of the work you’ve put in over the past few years. So yeah, you’re making a difference in peoples lives. BIG ONES!

    Rock on man…

Look Dude, do what ya gotta do. We all have to make a little money. Alaska is indescribably beautiful. Please keep us posted when/if you will be offering an opportunity to sail a leg with you. Just went on a “walk-about” and went by Blue WaterBay Marina in Niceville FL. They trashed the tiki hut but know have a nice bar on other side of marina, Went to a wooden boat show in Apalatchacola. Cruising on west coast of FL has alot to offer. The site is still good and I am always looking for your post. -Mojo

  11. “Bust Ass and Make Bank” is exactly why I’m here, and the only reason!!!

PBS has changed my life as will, it is how I reflect and see the world. Thanks guys.

Tammy, yes changing colors, but the enclosure dosent fit so well, nor do the sail covers. I really want the enclosure to keep bugs and rain out. I had maleria years ago, and i tight fit on the canvis is really important to me. I’m going to build a stack pack for the main as you cant really get to it over the bimini, and I need to re-design it so I can mount solar panels on top of it, it will need some hardware. As far as Fort Myers, yes I met my girl there and that was a life changing expierance. It’s just time for me/us to move on.

    Cheers

    HI Alex!!

That boat flu is awful, isn’t it? How are Katie and Dave and Roger? Please tell them that Chris and I said hello. We sailed into Cairns yesterday and love this place already. We’ll be here for 6 weeks or more and then hopefully, make our way slowly into Darwin. We hope to stop along the Great Barrier Reef and make some dives. We don’t leave for Indonesia until July 18 so we’ll have plenty of time.
It was hard to leave CONTIGO in Bundaberg without knowing if she sells and we never see her again. I can;t even think about it without tearing up…but the right thing will happen because the Universe is always looking out for us.
Take care and write us a note.
    Love you,
    Magie and Chris
PS Tell Dave I think you’re a super hard worker and THE choice to stay on board.

  13. Magie & ChrisI’m so damn sick I cant see straight. I was going to stay on for another 3 weeks but pulled out today, I just cant do it. All I think about is being back home on Splendid with my girls. I’ll send you guys a real email. Thanks for hooking me up with MSC though, I’m sure I’ll work for them again.

    Much Love- Alex
