Wow,
What a gloriously uneventful trip!
I left Fort Myers beach about 10am on Saturday and motored for a solid 27 hours. We had 10 kt head winds for most of the trip but at about 2am I set the jib and motor sailed under full sail until sunrise. I could have cut the engine but I really wanted to push it the entire trip as a shake-down. She worked flawlessly! The motor held 2000 rpm’s @ 170 degrees with solid oil pressure and puuuuurrrrreeeddddd like a kitten. Splendid also felt good under sail and I worked out a few rigging issues. When we got to Key West I really wanted to continue to Colombia as I had well over 150 gallons of fuel. I LOVE THIS BOAT!
Darrin left a few hours before me but I past him and lost radio contact. I’m expecting to see him in the morning.
Chuck and I anchored and went ashore for the “sunset celebration” and I had a mojeto, “yummy”. It’s spring break and all the freaks are out, its fun.
Cheers everyone, I’ll get pictures and video up soon.
Did you check out the “SPOT” link?

Hey Alex,
Glad ya made it with no breakdowns. Everything is looking good on splendid. Paint can wait GO SAILING!
Thanks again for the help with the packing in my boat, dry bilge is a good thing.
Peace all,
James

Josh has been sighted!
He and a friend are in Georgetown, Exumas. Rod ran into him Friday after his dinghy motor fell off the transom. Headed to the Virgins soon.
Because inquiring minds want to know.
Peace,
J
So relieved that your first trip was a success, and you got to really enjoy Splendid. I had just looked up Spot when you entered the ship channel into Key West.
By the way, the freaks are part of the culture. After hurricane Charlie, when Key West reopened a couple of days earlier than expected, they advertised they were back to being abnormal. It’s what makes it a fun place: lots of creativity, color, and a sensory explosion from serene gardens to people who should put more clothes on.
Enjoy! You’ve sure earned it.

Glad to see you are sailing again! Wife and I are going to east coast of US to look at 48′ Cheoy Lee . We only have a few land anchors left to pull up before we can cut the lines and go.
Have a cold for us

I am glad you are having fun. Have a coldie and celebrate.
Hi, this is my first post on this website. I’m a swedish guy, living in Italy for the moment, that has been cruising the mediterranean for a while. As soon as I get my “Splendid” (read bigger boat) I’ll head out for the circumnavigation as well… It won’t be too long but until then, let’s all stay cool…
I’ll make sure to keep up with your travel and until next time,
Buon vento!

Rickard,
I have a bunch of questions about cruising the Med. If you have time please shoot me an email.
Cheers.

You’re the man… I’ll just keep turning people on to the cursing lifestyle here in FMB. Good to meet you and wish we had more time, but you need to be where you are amigo. Keep it up. Stay in touch.
