Well I’m off to Key West tomorrow. My buddy Chuck will be making the passage with me. Sam and Guin will be going on vacation to New Jersey for Guin’s 4th birthday, and not making the trip, I’m really bummed.
Splendid’s glass work is done, however she is far from fair. Darrin and I painted all the glass work with mopoxy (epoxy paint) which we are using as primer. Splendid is white. I’ll be fairing and painting in the Keys and beyond.
Splendid is now the owner of a 4-person, off-shore, Viking life raft. I’ve never owned a life raft before, but what a nice piece of insurance. It will get stowed in a lazerette and hopefully never touched until it needs to be inspected in 3 years. It really is an amazing piece of equipment. Check out Viking by clicking on their link on the left side of the page. If Splendid sinks and I need to deploy it I’ll be looking to get a haircut, apartment, and a job, yuck!!!!!
Man I have a bunch of work today. I need to clean, clean, clean, install my winches, cleats, and the starboard track. I also need to visit West Marine and a few other places. Sorry I cant chat more. Did you see the new video?

Just checked the “Spot” and see you’re off Bonita Springs. It’s so wonderful to know that Splendid is splendidly under way. Hope you have enough wind to truly sail down and feel how graceful she is on the water. Today is the beginning of your enjoyment of the fruits of your labor.
My first trip on Splendid was to Key West. I took a week off after closing, as did my boyfriend. He’s suggested we to to the keys, and I was afraid that was too aggressive a shake down, so we were going to work our way north to St Petersburg.
I closed on the house on Friday morning, the boat on that afternoon, and that evening we left the dock at the house, and anchored out in Charlotte Harbor. The next morning we went to Pelican Bay. Sunday we were going out Boca Grande pass and he asked why we weren’t going to the keys, and I couldn’t come up with a good answer, so we headed south. During the night he realized it was in impulsive move – but too late. Coming back it was 4th of July week end. At sunset there was lightening in every direction. We got hit about 1 am off Cape Romano, where the shoal area really lets storms kick up. He was so scared he wanted me to call a may day. I knew we’d be OK, and it was too bad a storm to be rescued, even if we’d needed a rescue. That relationship didn’t last long after that!
I love the way Key West appears on the horizon, and it’s such a long way down that channel that I always got restless. Hope you get a chance to go to the Tortugas before heading to Cuba. Wonderful snorkeling there.

Alex…what are you thinking!!! No only sailing on a Friday. Sailing on Friday the 13th!!!. I’m agast
