Land and Sea

A big piece of the puzzle

Click to view full size imageWOOT, My auto pilot is finished. I’ve been working inside during the cold fronts and I finished the autopilot project. I still need to mount the control head, but it reaches to the cockpit and works just fine. I wanted to get a navpod so I could have the control head mounted on the rail at the helm, but they are way tooo expensive for what they are. I’m trying to figure out an alternative.

I hope the cold breaks soon so Darrin and I can work outside again. I’ll be testing my new Magellan GPS/Email communicator. It should be activated today.

Also, if anyone knows where I could find a used radar mast mount let me know. I have to mount the dome for my Raymarine SL72 on the mizzen.

I’ll have a new video posted soon.

Peace everyone.

Try the Sailors Exchange in St.Augustine, they have mountians of salvaged and surplus stuff. Everything for boats that you can imagine. Surplus Unlimited in Daytona is another one of my favorite places to wander around wishing I could get everything. I posted this in the forum yesterday too. Some of my brewing videos may help you out too. YouTube channel blowinganddrifting

I know you’re happy about that. It has been a long time coming.

  3. Just met John Stevens {Electro Maax} in Ft.Lauderdale. Sorry couldn’t get him to the airport. Had great conversation @ Cooley’s Landing.

  4. John is a great guy, he also also sells a great product. I’m just about to install my electromaxx Alternator, controller, and isolater. I found him because I wanted the best Alternator made leaving this time. I had to have my ballmar rebuilt a few times and I don’t want to go through that again.

Alex, I’ve no idea what radar masts go for these days, especially in the US. However, I’ve seen some curious (and presumably cheap) alteratives, like sections (cut to fit, of course) of masts from smaller boats (lasers, or 19 footers, etc). Being aluminum, you can usually get a strong and light section of ‘tube’ for a mast. I think I’ve got a pic somewhere of one of these installations extruding up from the stern of a boat. If I can find it, I’ll send it. Cheers & Fair winds always. MJM

  6. I cant use a radar pole as I have a ketch, the mizzen boom hangs over the stern. I’m looking for a mizzen radar mount. I may end up building one out of stainless as they are about $250.00 for a new one.

    Cheers.

    Alex
