Land and Sea

Why?

Something has really been eating at my gut. A few days before I returned to Fort Myers a police officer (Andrew Widman (d.o.b. 5-11-78)) was shot in the face and killed just a few blocks from Splendid and the Fort Myers Yacht basin. It turns out he was a friend of a friend and I had seen him around. I wanted to put up a link to a site where everyone could read his story and donate a few dollars to the family. He was quite young and left a wife and 3 children behind.

This really was a gross atrocity and it spurred me into a lot of deep thought. I’ve spent a lot of time it what we might call “dangerous places” like Panama and Colombia, and there is violence, but I haven’t seen so much violence without reason. There seems to be so much hate and fear rolling around these days, why is that? I don’t really know what to say, I just can’t seem to shake this thing and find the incident often on my mind.

I know today’s log isn’t sailing related but I wanted to mention what has been weighing on my mind.

On the upside, I ordered 2 110watt Solar panels today, and am looking forward to unplugging from the grid on the second of next month. I’d stay here at the dock longer but I just can’t afford it. I’ll cruise around the area working on boat project until November/December when hurricane season is over. After that “Who knows”? I do have a few surprises up my sleeve though : )

Peace, Love, and lots more Peace!!!!
