Land and Sea

Everything is coming together!

Click to view full size imageI finally got my Mercury 10 hp outboard running. It always starts on the second pull cold, and the first warm. Aside from rebuilding the carb I had to re-epoxy the stator magnets under the flywheel, they had become loose. I believe this is why the motor was so cheap ($350.00). I think the previous owner couldn’t troubleshoot the problem. It was only running on one cylinder. My inflatable is so fast now I cant open the motor up all the way, maybe on a calm day?

I’ve ordered my Tiller arm today. Buck Algonquin couldn’t make it for some technical reason however I’m ordering it through Marine Hardware. If you would like to see a diagram of it, click on the following link.

They are customizing the base for me so it will attach to the squared part of my rudder post. Once it is installed all I need to do is make a fiberglass base for the drive to attach to the hull and hook up the electronics. Then It’s time to go for a sea trial and blow out of here!!!

I also got a job for a few days helping someone sail across the Gulf. I’ll be leaving the first week in May. I’ll be putting Splendid in a slip here at the marina or on a mooring ball. With the extra money I hope to buy some solar panels or a windvane. I’m really starting to feel like everything is coming together. Once I leave the states all I want to find is a nice place to work on Splendid’s cosmetics, spearfish, and do some charters. I want to get back to living my way.

If you want to see the Marine Hardware catalogue check it out here. I always like ordering direct.
