Beautiful Day

I’ve been recovering from a bug since I’ve returned from Atlanta. I’m starting to feel like I’m beating it.

I had to put in a new deck fill for the holding tank. I couldn’t get it open and needed to go to the dock for a pump out and water.

I tried selling my marine air conditioner at a flee market on Sunday but nobody showed up. I’m trying to swap it for an outboard or anchor. I ended up giving away my microwave and bread maker. I have an oven for bread making and I just don’t like microwaves, they take a lot of power. I did buy a juicer. I love carrot, beet, ginger juice and it’s really nice to have. I can’t wait for mango season down in the tropics I’ll be juice crazy.

The big news is my buddy Josh. He went to change some belts the other day and found “Second Star” was taking on water. The flange where the shaft housing connects to the bulk head was rotted out and needs to be replaced. He had to turn around and head back up to the Glades ship yard for a haul out, bummer!

I did buy a used Garmin 182C from my buddy Ned. It will take my chart chips (Blue Charts) and will be a nice addition to my non-existent electronics package. I almost bought a 4 man AVON life raft on Craigslist (it’s a really good deal at $250 if anyone wants it), but I called for a repack quote and I’d be looking at about $850 additional. It’s still a good deal but too much for me at the moment. I will buy a good EPIRB before I take off.

Here are some pictures. The one in the cockpit is of Josh and I. The other two guys are my buddies Sam and Jim. Then there is one of Splendid as she sits here in Fort Myers.

I’m hoping to win an autopilot on ebay today. If not I’ll have to figure something else out. If I do win it, I’ll have to pull the steering quadrant out of the boat and bring it to a welders place. I need a piece welded on for the linear drive to attach. I’d do the welding myself but it’s aluminum and it is a hard metal to work with.

Anyway, life is grand and it’s a splendid day.

Peace, Love, and Coconuts.

Alex
