Chuck and I just got back from 2 days of hard work on “Splendid. The yard is a 2 hour commute from the house here in Stuart. The commute is a killer but a good time for conversation. We put in new batteries, filled some blisters, and pulled the prop and shaft. The shaft was a bit off and is being straightened at the prop shop along with the prop.
We also got the motor started without too much hassle, phew, she purred like a kitten. The engine room is a mess of old wiring and needs a lot of attention, the water heater disintegrated when I put some weight on it trying to get to a threw-hull. To look at “Splendid” you'd say “Big Project”, but not me. It's all just work, and at the end of the day I'll have a beautiful boat. I need to do a lot of glass work above the water line and it will take a few months. I’m hoping to sail to Cuba around May, we’ll see.
I’m getting used to living back in the states and system but sometimes it stings. I can’t believe Verizon. I called Panama for about 45 minutes from my buddies Steve’s house in California. I told him I’d cover the call when it came in and he just got the bill. Verizon charged me just under $5 dollars a minute for a total of $309.00 for my call to Panama, unbelievable & disgusting! How can they treat people like that? When Steve called them they said they didn’t cover long distance to Panama. But if they didn’t how did they connect me. I remember (In the old days) when they just wouldn’t connect you if you didn’t have long distance. I guess now they just connect you and screw you? There is surly to much greed in the world!
Aside from Verizon my life is Splendid. I have good friends, enough, and health.
I’ll have pictures up soon.
Peace everyone.
