I know periodically my log titles are “Hung Over”, but that happens every once and a while. My friend Steve threw a wonderful party last night. I saw some old friends, and made some great new ones. I'm smiling from ear to ear even though my head is split open.
I've also bought a boat…, well not yet…, but almost!!!
I'm in the process of buying a 40' Cheoy Lee. It needs work (a bunch) but I could afford her, and well…, she's meant to be mine. After arriving in Florida I drove for a few hours to see her and I knew she was for me. She is more of a project then I had hoped but that goes with the territory (lack of money). She has been on the hard for 5 years waiting for me, and I've traveled half way around the world to find her, her name is S/V “Splendid”. I have a few days of work and seeing old friends here in California, but at the first possible moment I'm going home to my new girl! She is really beautiful. She is harshly worn from the sun and generally tired but she will get my energy and attention. I will make her the fine sailing ship she is meant to be. I'll have pictures soon. She is a solid fibraglass ketch. There is a sister ship on yachtworld if you want to get an idea. She is refereed to as a 40' Cheoy Lee MidShipman. She's phat (13') and nets 27,000 lbs. She has 39'10″ at the water line and is has a sheol draft (4'6″). She has a center cockpit and a comfortable aft cabin.
I'm really excited to get Project BlueSphere off the ground and back in the water. My first order of business is doing title and transactions. After that I need to fly back to Florida to attend to Splendid. I have a few blisters to fix and I need to do a bottom job before getting her wet. I couldn't start the motor due to dead batteries but the old Perkins looked fine and the fly wheel turns smoothly. If the motor needs help I'll do it. As most of you know I've become a decent mechanic. What I'm not…, is a carpenter, that comes next. I need to learn to work with wood. She needs some fibreglass repair as well but I feel comfortable with it.
I know I'm going to ask myself 1000 times “WHY, WHY, WHY” but it's my path. She is a beautiful boat that needs a captain, and I'm a captain that needs a beautiful boat. That is the way it is supposed to work right?
I'm happy today despite the 45lb CQR someone planted in between my ears, oh yeah, that was me!!!
Peace, Love, and Splendid!!
