I like to think of myself as an optimist, but these dreary days are getting to me.
I left Nuie yesterday around mid afternoon. The wind was fresh and when I got out of the lee of the island found a steep 10′ swell packed tightly together. I made good time however it was a rough ride. Namaste was on a port tack as the wind is coming from the NNE. It’s hard to sleep inside on a port tack as there is no lee cloth on the bunk in the salon. I grabbed some cushions and went to sleep on the floor.
At one point in the night there was a rogue wave. I woke to my library and heavy books falling all over my body, my chess set caught me clear on the bridge of my nose. I threw everything into the vbirth. Not a nice way to wake up!
I got up to look outside and found nothing but a thick, wet, soulless night. The sound of thunder grumbling and the quick flashes of light further doused my mood. “Where has paradise gone” I thought to myself. I miss the endless days of getting brown in the sun, spear fishing, cooking, picking fruit, and spending time with my good friends.
Today was a thick, wet, electrical, gob of crap! I’m doing a knot in no wind, 8′ seas and listening to the rain beat against the deck.
I must find the strength to make it to Australia. It’s very tempting, however dangerous to spend the hurricane season in Tonga or Fiji. I just want to slow down!! A little sunshine would go a long way!
I’m sorry if I sound really down, but I am. I am not enjoying these days at sea.
Cheers everyone.
Where is the nice weather
