Death!!!

Well yesterday turned into a work day. I saw that the water flow coming out of the exhaust was a bit down and checked the impeller, sure enough there were 3 blades broken off. I changed the impeller as well as the racor filter and put 15 gallons of fuel in the tank from deck cans.

A very disturbing thing happened to me last night. It was a nice evening and I decided to sleep in the cockpit where I got many hours of needed sleep. I woke to a strange smell at about 1:30 in the morning. The smell of death ghosted on the breeze. ?Road kill? I thought but no road. It really freaked me out, I thought a body might be floating around, and then I thought probably a whale. Whales are mammals and would most likely not smell like rotting fish. I searched around with the search light for a while but it only revealed water and waves. The smell lasted for 30 minutes or so. It was really hard to fall back asleep as I?ve never herd of such a thing at sea, death is a land smell, strange!

I woke this morning just as the light kissed the night sky. The wind and seas are down and I?m creeping along at around 2 knots. The Palmerston atoll is only 60 miles ahead of me. If there is absolutely no wind tomorrow I may pull in but I?ve set a new course for the New Zealand Island of Nuie where I hope to buy fuel and some provisions.

Being at sea alone is a strange place to be, I often wonder why I like it. I wish my question mark worked!

Today I will pray for wind.

Peace, love, and Wind.
