I know what I have to do!

Sometimes one needs to drink beer to put things into perspective, Cheers Aldo!

I’ve gotten hundreds of emails and instant messages regarding getting into the new boat. Some people were offended that I would conceder going back to do this, and others helpful and supportive. I think the people who really know me, know this is a good step for me. I really want to do something positive with my time and bring Project Bluesphere to the next level. I got the following email from my friend Kirk who came for a charter in Panama last year.

“Alex, You are worrying that change will be bad or disappointing to some. You didn’t really think that Namaste would be as far as you went with this did you? She has been the trustworthy friend who carried you to this cross road. It may be time for her to help someone else get started and allow you to move on just like in the beginning of this project. Change is always unsettling but it always offers new opportunities and possibilities. Stop listening to everyone else and trust your “gut”. What do you really feel? We have all been lucky enough to ride along as you have traveled the world. Some of us were lucky enough to sample some of it first hand but you don’t owe any of us anything – do what is best for you. It will only be a new adventure. It may look entirely different than this one but whatever you do it will lead to something good. Take care, Kirk”

Thanks Kirk, you hit the nail on the head and put things in perspective for me.

I need to do this!

My buddy Chris took a good look at the boat for me and agrees I could make it work. Cruisers look at boats differently then most boaters. We do our own work, fabricate many of our own parts, and don’t spend much time in marinas or on moorings. Yes, of course the bigger boat will mean bigger expenses but the opportunity associated with the bigger boat outweighs it for me. With the new boat I could charter comfortably. I’m going to charter out the front of the boat (3 cabins / 1 head ) while I take the aft cabin and head. I’m also going to do cheap charters for doctors & nurses who want to dedicate some time in South America as well as filling dreams for people who need it along the way. Remember the controversial Gore pledge that I posted a few weeks ago, well this is my pledge, and I will make a difference!

One of my subscribers (Chuck) put in an offer on the boat on my behalf today. It’s probably about 15k shy of what the owner will take, but it’s a start. If anyone wants to come forward and buy a charter early speak now, I’ll give away 3 weeks for 5k up front. The money will go into escrow and if the boat isn’t purchased it will be returned. Chuck also asked a surgeon buddy of his what he thought of my idea and he said he “could line up 10 interested doctors tomorrow”, this will work!

I know a bunch of people are interested in Namaste, I’d also like to suggest that perhaps I could sell her to a few people who would be interested in owning a boat here, a group. Tahiti would be a great place to come for a sailing vacation every year. I can also deliver her to New Zealand, Australia, or Hawaii. If you are interested in Namaste also know she comes with tools, spares, fishing rod, and spear gun. If you have been dreaming of doing this Tahiti is the perfect starting point. I’m willing to get creative and help someone fulfill their own dream of cruising on Namaste. This is a turn key thing. Namaste is ready to go she just needs the right person, my dreams have outgrown her. I know so many are out there thinking about this and this may possibly be as good as an opportunity for you as it is for me. I really didn’t think I would conceder taking under 40k for her but I’ll move closer to 30, everything is new including the thru-hulls, she is sound! BTW, my rebuild worked like a champ and the motor runs like a clock, I turned out to be not such a bad mechanic.

Anyway, if you have questions or Ideas please feel free to contact me.

I’m feeling good about this.

Peace, Love, and Progress.

– Alex
