Land and Sea

Are we having fun yet?

The wind turned into an annoying gust, the main viciously flopping back and forth. It drove me mad all day and still no sleep for the weary. I’m steaming south. I had allotted 20 gallons, and I’m upping it to 30. After that I will drift until…, whatever! I’ll still have 75 gallons onboard for the remainder of the trip.

Where are the trades!!!! I am past 4 degrees south!!!

Still no fish. Where have they all gone? I usually catch a Dorado or something on a day trip to the Las Pearlas, two weeks at sea and zip? Am I doing something wrong? I’ve tried numerous lures, what’s up, am I in the twilight zone? My provisioning depended of fresh fish.

I’m a quarter into my trip; Panama is 1000 miles behind, the Galapagos 350 miles. I know there is no turning back, nor do I want to.

I’m in what can potentially be a bad stretch of sea. Usually one is advised to stay at 3 degrees until 100 west before making south. The area between 3 and 8 south, and 92 to 100 west can get snotty. Many boats have reported difficult conditions here. I remember listening to some boats battling with the sea here last year.

Having written that 3 hours ago I just got off the radio and was told to prepare for 10+ foot seas and 40knots of wind. This is how it’s going to be eah?

I’m going to start stowing stuff in the vbirth.

There is light at the end of my rainbow, I know it!

Cheers.
