Land and Sea

Sleep is a welcome friend!

As the sun went down last night so did the wind.

I played with the sails for a few hours trying to make a bit of way, but no luck. The autopilot needs wind to keep a course and she just wouldn’t do it. I tried to sleep but the flapping of the main kept me awake so I took it down. Now I was drifting at 1.5 knots in the general direction I want to go. I closed my eyes and woke up 7 hours later at 04:30. The decks were moist along with my skin. The stars had disappeared and only a surreal fog engulf Namaste.

For my entire sailing career I’ve never been able to sleep at sea. For my entire sailing career I’ve felt the need to make way 24/7, that’s over, I choose to sleep from now on. If wind is scarce or if I’m tired I will hive to for the night and continue well rested.

I fired up the diesel this morning and I’m pushing through a calm and windlass sea. The sky is just getting light and my coffee is just about ready.

I can see lightning on the horizon. I think I’m close to the ITCZ (doldrums).

What a special place I’m in.

Peace, Love, and calm seas.

Alex
