Does anyone want to buy a good sail boat and a really cool sailing website?
Namaste is my 4th sailboat and I have spent many nasty nights at sea but last night was the 2nd worse. The first was in
Last night the wind picked up to 22-29, not so windy but the swell was ferocious. Namaste had 2 reefs in and was running along between 7-7.8 knots; I think that is over hull speed. I have a 3rd reef in my main but I’ve never had to use it. I had to rig the 3rd reef last night surfing down waves. And I did this while I was dodging all of the tanker traffic bound for the canal.
If you look at the chart for Punta Mala (Very, very bad point), the sea comes from over 3000 feet up to 300 feet very quickly. This combined with an ebbing tide knocked my socks off.
Everything in my boat is trashed, EVERYTHING! Everything that wasn’t screwed down is either on the floor, broken, or in the V-birth because I threw it there.
My beautiful sack of oranges smashed, my bananas mush, and my pineapples pulp, The boat is a mess!
All weather forecasts looked good, I even spoke to the local weatherman on the SSB and he said “Go”.
I’m in pretty bad spirits today. I have not slept and I’m cranky so I will not write much.
I would have traded places with any of you last night.
I made about 110 miles in the past 24hrs.
