My idols are sailors of the past. Men who sailed without a GPS, mechanical propulsion, refrigeration, or auto pilots. This is the kind of man I aspire to be. I want to build my backbone and I think that is my destiny, so be it!
I went to change my oil today and the first thing I did was check the dipstick, it was dry. I don’t think it is a leek, I’ve never had an oil leek, I think I’m burning it. When I rebuilt the aft cylinder I believe the rings shifted and wore in another place thus letting oil slip by and combust with the fuel. The motor does start a bit harder and I have a bit of smoke now. I know I could order rings & gaskets open the cylinder again and change everything out, but that is not going to happen, I’m DONE! I am going sailing!
If my motor fails I will find the deepest and darkest hole in the Pacific, dismantle it, and send it to Davie Jones forever! This is a sailboat, and I am sailor. Why is it everyone is so afraid to go sailing without a good motor? I have no schedule and can wait for wind. I will take the road less traveled and I believe that Namaste and my path will take care of me along the way, plus if anything does happen I have 3 gallons of rum to assist with the situation!
I can’t continue working today, I got kind of pissed off and threw a half quart of oil at the motor and have a bit of a mess on my hands. I’m going to sneak into the Balboa Yacht Club showers, take a long hot shower and go to the movies. I know it probably sounds silly to most of you having to go to an office every day, but the stress is getting to me. I think today is Wednesday. I will go get my Zarpe this week, Monday on the outside but I doubt it. I’m really ready to get the sails up and go; it’s time to leave this place.
Anyway, I’m sending this log with coordinates in the subject line. This should report a position to the chart viewer so you will be able to watch my progress as I sail across the Pacific. We are still testing this system but should have it up and running before I go.
Cheers everyone.
Peace, Love, and favorable wind.
Alex
