All of my mast steps are made and installed, well almost. These are really awesome mast steps and made from scratch, much stronger then the ones from West Marine. Allie is a really talented welder and makes a lot of these steps for cruisers heading to the Pacific.
It’s really important to be able to get some height in order to see the reefs entering an atoll.
I started installing steps around 6:30 this morning. By 1400 the wind really picked up but I continued to work despite the roll. I have these really stupid rigging cables that I think the last owner installed. They go from the mast to the mid spreader. Supposedly they should keep the spreader from creeping down. I have never seen any pressure on them since I’ve had the boat. Anyway, I was leaning on the port one when it snapped as a tanker went by and waked the boat. The pop rivets “Popped”. I flew off the mast, dropped a mast step and slammed into the mast getting the drill bit in my leg. I’ll put the last 4 steps on in the morning when the breeze is down.
I may not make a Monday departure, but surely next week. I have to wait for a package of stuff for my satellite phone anyway.
It was a beautiful sunset last night.
Cheers everyone.
Peace, Love, and more Peace.
Alex
