Dan took off this morning.

Dan took off this morning he seemed a little bummed which made me happy that he had a good time. We kicked back for most of the trip and only managed to get a picture this morning (I was still asleep) just before he stepped on the shore boat. I wanted to crop myself out as I was only awake a few minutes before we took the picture. I also have a video clip we shot just after the lightning strike; I’ll post that video soon. My next guest (Buddy) is arriving on Saturday in Contadora. He’ll have my new HDV video camera with him. Hopefully we will get some good footage.

Someone sent an Instant message asking what an indirect strike is. An indirect strike hits the water close to the boat (20 – 30 feet) in my case. The electricity penetrates the ships grounding system via an under-water grounding plate and the motor shaft. It also included Namaste in its EMP (Electro magnetic Pulse), I hope all my video tapes are okay. It could have been a lot worse. Two boats took direct strikes here at the Balboa Yacht Club two days before we pulled in. A direct strike could literally wipe me out. All internal wiring, electronics, digital media (hard drives & tapes), not to mention the possibility of loosing the boat. Direct strikes have been known to blow thru-hull fittings right out of the boat.

I was able to get my visa extension on Friday. I have to bring my outboard to the shop on Monday morning. It’s not a big job; they just have to take 2 bolts out that hold the plastic cover on. I couldn’t get them off for the life of me. I’ll do some provisioning and be off by Wednesday or Thursday the latest.  I’m also in the process of trying to open an HSBC bank account. Believe it or not I still haven’t been able to access an ATM, it’s been what, 6 weeks? Thanks Washington Mutual!

Gary & Mavis (on Plan B), Dan and I went to see the new “Pirates of the Caribbean” yesterday. I was a little disappointed. They (Hollywood) did the same thing they did to “The Matrix”. They shot 2 sequels at once, neither of which is a movie that has a beginning, middle, and end. It was entertaining, but I’m not so interested in seeing the 3rd now.

Oh well, I hope everyone is well and enjoying their weekend.

Peace, Love & Coconuts!

Alex
