the price of oil?

How can my bread suck so badly now? When I was in the San Blas I was making the best bread known to man, and without an oven on my stove top. Now, what I produce is absolutely un-eatable, even the fish won’t eat it when I throw it overboard. My French friends gave me a recipe around a year ago, I’ve lost it, and I can’t seem to reproduce it. My friends on UTE (Allen & Cora) made, and brought over some great Focaccia a few weeks ago. Cora gave me the recipe and I just gave it my best shot, YUCK!!!!! I have to fix this, it’s imperative to my life-style. My buddy Roger is working on the Saki recipe back in Panama, hopefully we can get this all straitened out.

I finished another article for Latitudes & Attitudes and got that emailed off last night : )

I must master the bread & wine making thing, I MUST!

Anyone out there who has a good stove-top bread recipe, please help! The bread in the stores here is fowl (like wonder bread) but has a stupid looking bear on the front, and it’s called “BIMBO”, how appropriate.

I didn’t go fishing today, basically I hung out on the boat cleaning, baking (HAHA), and listening to music, I’ve been in a weird mood, you’ll find out why in a moment.

If you only like reading my “UP-BEAT” logs, stop here and don’t continue, I mean it!

I got a very disturbing phone call last night.

President Bush and the Panamanian President are trying to strike a deal to do a massive American oil exploration expedition in the San Blas Islands. If this happens, and especially if they find oil, it will wipe the Kuna culture off of the face of the earth PERMINANTLY! The Kuna have a legal right to govern themselves, however the water just off of the barrier reef is Panamanian water, and a prime location for oil rigs. I can’t tell you how desperately sad this makes me. These are the most gentile, and most gracious people I’ve ever had the opportunity of spending time with, and the Kuna-Yalla is by far the most beautiful and special place I’ve ever seen in my life. If you have a moment, go to the photo album section of my site and look into the eyes of these people. They are honest and pure-hearted. American dollars is not what they need, they need to be left alone!!! If the people contemplating this atrocity knew the Kuna people they wouldn’t even think about doing such a thing…, or would they?

The lives we take for oil, it blows my mind.

If it really looks like this deal will take place I’m seriously considering going back to the San Blas and taking a year or two to produce a documentary on the Kuna culture. Maybe at least our grand children could watch the video, and learn of the culture of these beautiful indigenous people.

When I was in Colombia it took me a while to figure out why American Choppers were flying out to the interior early each morning and returning quite late at night. They were spraying the Coca (Cocaine) plants with strong pesticides. I didn’t speak Spanish at the time but asked my friend why an Indian woman was holding 2 dead infants in her arms on the cover of the local news paper. “War on drugs mate” he replied, the chemicals have destroyed the indigenous people’s water supply (Creeks & Rivers), and the children are dying first. These are the things we don’t hear about on CNN, wonder why? This is a good instance of the American dollar reaching deep into the jungle, I can only prey that it stays out of the San Blas.

I live on about 20, 12V amps of power a day. I have 3 solar panels and a wind generator which help provide me the luxury of refrigeration, lights, and power for my computer & cameras. And I use my diesel engine as sparingly as possible.

I can only hope that my readers, subscribers, and audience take care to keep a watchful eye on the energy that they consume. The price for this power is far greater then most of us comprehend.

Anyway, sorry for the downer log, I’m just a bit upset. I make it a point not to get into politics, but this strikes so close to my heart.

It’s raining pretty hard; a tropical wave is passing by. I’m catching water, and the wind generator is working double time. No fish today, so I’m making falafels for din-din.

Peace, Love, and ……….?
