Land and Sea

Dont be afraid.

Yesterday wasn’t so bad, I woke up to clear skies & sunshine. The weather is a funny thing, about as un-predictable as my last girlfriend. Looking out my porthole is a different story this morning. I see a text book example of a tropical wave approaching from the east.

With the approaching Thunder & Lightning I decided to learn a bit about it. I looked up lightning on Encarta and came across a list of phobias. Did you know Astraphobia is the fear of lightning, and Brontophobia is the fear of thunder? Monophobia is the fear of being alone, and Aquaphobia is the fear of water. It made me smile because I realized I could be a lot more screwed up then I am. It gets even funnier though. Blennophobia is the fear of slime, and Clinophobia is the fear of going to bed, Emetophobia is the fear of vomiting, and Linonophobia is the fear of string. Nudophobia is the fear of nudity, and Trichophobia is the fear of hair. My favorite is Dementophobia which is the fear of going insane. My question is if you are Dementophobic, are you not already insane? At the end of all this I found that it’s possible to be Phobophobic which is the fear of Phobias in general. If you have Encarta look up Phobia, it’s probably worth a laugh or two. Actually I’d think there were a lot of people who didn’t think this was funny at all and quite cruel, and if you are one of those people I’m sorry.

What is the fear of reading online sailing logs?

Anyway I’m just bored and trying to amuse myself.

I’m going to spend a few more days in the San Blas and head for Isla Linton where I can catch a bus to Panama. I’m going to go back to the hotel that has the in-room internet so I can upload some pictures, and get some work done.

Oh, and by the way, Pogonophobia is the fear of Beards.

Peace, love, and Cocophobia.
