Today was a running around day as I need to take off in the next few days. The first thing I did in the morning was jerry-jug 40 Gallons of fuel on board. The local supermarket sells empty 5 gallon vegetable oil containers (Plastic) for $20.00 Jamaican (about $0.33 usd), I picked up 3, and now Namaste is carrying an extra 15 gallons of fuel (77 gallons total).
I also had to Jerry-jug water on board, and ice the boat. I spend a lot of time sweating today.
I visited customs and immigration and cleared out of Jamaica. All went well, entering and clearing Jamaica didn’t cost any money.
The evening was nice. There’s an Irishman in port who invited everyone for drinks at the pool. We all sit around the round table. Tonight there were representatives from France, England, Holland, Ireland, Spain, and I was the American (The brunt of many jokes).
We snacked on crackers, drank rum, and talked about cruising & politics. None of us really live in our collective countries; we’re more members of an international society…, sailors…, cruisers…, and world travelers. Cruisers seem to have a different perspective of the world, a bit more balanced and kind.
I thought to myself, “if we could run the world from this table, what a much nicer place it would be”. How is it that our politicians manage to screw things up so badly?
My plan is to sail to Cartagena in the morning along with the Spanish couple (Julio & Soleded). John and Annie will leave at the same time but will head for Panama. It’s a nice feeling traveling with my new friends; perhaps this passage will not be as lonely as the last.
