I set sail from Bird Cay around 05:45, when the sun came up and the air warmed, the breeze freshened to around 23kts from the NE. the seas were 7/8 feet, with the occasional 10/11 rolling by from the passing cold front. Around 13:30, a pod of about 30 dolphins played off of Namaste’s bow for an hour or so. I arrived in Nassau harbor about 16:00, set the anchor (not easily). When I left the States I forgot to get a new American Flag, Namaste’s is falling apart in the sun. When I dove the anchor to make sure it was set, I found a new American flag lying on the sandy bottom just under Namaste’s keel, what are the chances of that?
I haven’t seen this much civilization since leaving Miami. I noticed that the boat next to me was dragging anchor, I took the dingy over to the boat and knocked on the hull. The boat owners are completely deaf; they only speak sign, and read lips. I thought my journey was hard; I couldn’t imagine being deaf at sea, no VHF/SSB communications, or being able to hear the thunder in the distance to prepare for a squall, or hearing a fog horn to warn you of a point of land, or hazard. I really give these people credit for following their dreams.
I’ll go ashore tomorrow and do a bit of exploring. This is my last real port to provision until I reach Georgetown.
