Chartering

Sail Panama to Columbia — Sail Columbia to Panama

“Splendid” will be available for chartering in The San Blas Islands of Caribbean Panama early 2012. She will also be running backpackers sailing from Panama to Colombia, and sailing from Colombia to Panama.

If your interested in a San Blas charter, or a charter to or from Colombia to Panama please email me or call me on my Panama cell at 507.680.87.187

If you would like to know the latest position of Splendid please check her current position.

If your flying into Panama and meeting Splendid in the San Blas islands here is some helpful information for you to budget and plan your trip. Flying into Panama is very cheap from the USA and Spirit has Direct flights from Ft. Lauderdale for as little as $99.00 each way. You have to do a little hunting but I’m sure you can find a good bargains on airfare.

You will be flying into Panama Cities Tocumen international airport, PTY is the airport code.

I would call my friend John at airport rides ($30.00) and secure your transportation from Tocumen to one of the following hotels ahead of time. John speaks flaunt english and his number in Panama is 507.606.539.42

I recommend the following hotels.

Hotel Milan

Las Vegas Suites

You will find accommodations at these hotels for $60.00 – $80.00 per night. Cheaper hotels can be found in the $30.00 range or you can stay in one of the many youth hostels for about $12.00 a night in a dorm situation which is what I do when I travel to Panama.

Both Hotel Milan, and Las Vegas suits are in the area known as Via Espanya. Across the street you will find a nice casino and the wine bar ((Italian) one of my favorite restaurants in Panama) is on the same block. Across the street you will also find the Istimo brew pub. A micro brewery with pool table and one of my favorite hangs.

You will most likely be meeting me in the San Blas Islands and flying in via Air Panama (about $50.00/40mins) and meeting me on the island of El Porvenir. Make your reservation ahead of time as with the hotel. You will be flying out of Panama city from a smaller local airport (Albroke) and you will have no problem finding a taxi ($4.00) to get you there from the hotel. Or you can arrange another ride with John if your worried about english/spanish communication. I will most likely ask you to bring some things from the market as fresh provisions are difficult and there is a Rey supermarket just next to the Albroke airport.

If you would prefer not to fly to the San Blas you can take advantage of the only road (road/jungle path) via a 4X4 adventure (3-4hrs) and meet me on the island of Carti. Once you arrive you will take a short panga (boat) ride from the mainland to Carti where I will meet you with Splendid.

All I can say about the San Blas Islands is I’ve sailed over 1/2 the world and it’s my favorite spot. I remember being stuck in Bora-Bora due to weather and wishing I could push a button to be back in the San Blas.

If you come for a visit I’m sure you will remember your stay for the rest of your life as the Kuna indians and San Blas islands are a magical place and an indigenous land that will soon be just a memory.

Cheers

alex
