Adventure is where you find it.
Although I’ve been spending more time off the boat in the last month than I ever have I’ve been buying boat stuff, supplies, and still finding some time for fun. Carla and I took a jungle tour with our friend heather the other day.
I find the jungle covered in bugs, snakes, and poisonous frogs, but we had fun. I’m not much of a land person and I’m not even fond
of swimming in fresh water (lakes & rivers), but what the hell, when in Rome right?
Carla found some fresh bananas and I even found a cacao (chocolate) tree.
We trekked up onto the mountain for hours following a
stream and small hunting trail.
The sky roared with thunder & lightening as usual but the canopy protected us from the rain.
Everything was sopping wet though and full of life. There isn’t a square centimeter where something isn’t growing. The trees and rocks are covered in fungus or moss, and eyes watch from
everywhere.
Being on land so much is a really good exercise for me. Even though I’m having fun I can assure you that the boat life is for me long term.
It’s funny people say “a boat is a hole in the water you keep pouring money into”, I find it completely the opposite. If you own land or live on it everything has a price. The food you eat, the water you drink, taxes,
power, and so on.
The land is so uber-expensive I cant see straight. We pay people to clean the house and keep the garden clean. We pay to fuel the car, the house, and people even like to stop by and give us bills for electricity & phone. ARRRGGGGG, I’m happy with my solar panels, sails, VHF radio, and peace on the water.
If I did live on the land though it
would be somewhere as remote as Patagonia, man I cant wait to see it in November.
Well I’m off to do epoxy & fiberglass work in the cockpit. We have a charter in a few weeks and I have a ton of work to do.
By the way the flower is a pineapple flower.
Peace.
