I was about 1000 miles out of the Galapagos when I took this picture. I remember this sunset so vividly because I was so very far away from anything. Just myself, Namaste, and the greatest ocean in the world.
I got bad news from my friend Jamie today. He lost a friend (Rex) at sea between Rarotonga (Cook Islands), and New Zealand. Rex went overboard and they were not able to find him. New Zealand search and rescue along with other ships became part of the search, but it is such a big ocean, and a man so small. Rex was lost at sea.
How long have I been in this anchorage?
I went to see if I needed to clean the prop today and realized i haven’t cleaned the bottom in 4 months. I have large prawns living in my threw hulls and a reef on the bottom of Splendid. I’ve been distracted by my book and videos. I’m still very sad about the girls, but it is time move on. I’m embarrassed I let Splendid’s hull foul so badly. “Sail far and live slow” right, not just live slow and let crap grow on my hull. I need to live by my own words!
My goal is to be in the San Blas by Christmas. My visa expires on the 22nd and I must go to Costa Rica via bus for a few days. I’ll
have 6 months on my new stamp and I want to spend a good chunk of that in the San Blas. I hope I can get good enough internet to upload videos. I have to make some money to finish Splendid and move on. I don’t want to become too eccentric and salty. The sea is calling!
The picture of the table was taken at my friend Binnie’s house and set for thanksgiving dinner. I hadn’t had a real meal for quite some time. We dined on pig, turkey, fruit, wine, ice cream, and pie. I didn’t feel so good getting home as I’m not used to eating so heavily.
I’m in a weird mood tonight after hearing about Jamie’s friend, It does happen. I guess the question rolling around in my head is “how will I make my time on this earth fuller”? Life can blow out so quickly and without warning.
Rex was Maori and from New Zealand, tonight I toast to Rex!
Cheers
