I was about 1000 miles out of the Galapagos when I took this picture. I remember this sunset so vividly because I was so very far away from anything. Just myself, Namaste, and the greatest ocean in the world.
I got bad news from my friend Jamie today. He lost a friend (Rex) at sea between Rarotonga (Cook Islands), and New Zealand. Rex went overboard and they were not able to find him. New Zealand search and rescue along with other ships became part of the search, but it is such a big ocean, and a man so small. Rex was lost at sea.
How long have I been in this anchorage?
I went to see if I needed to clean the prop today and realized i haven’t cleaned the bottom in 4 months. I have large prawns living in my threw hulls and a reef on the bottom of Splendid. I’ve been distracted by my book and videos. I’m still very sad about the girls, but it is time move on. I’m embarrassed I let Splendid’s hull foul so badly. “Sail far and live slow” right, not just live slow and let crap grow on my hull. I need to live by my own words!
My goal is to be in the San Blas by Christmas. My visa expires on the 22nd and I must go to Costa Rica via bus for a few days. I’ll
have 6 months on my new stamp and I want to spend a good chunk of that in the San Blas. I hope I can get good enough internet to upload videos. I have to make some money to finish Splendid and move on. I don’t want to become too eccentric and salty. The sea is calling!
The picture of the table was taken at my friend Binnie’s house and set for thanksgiving dinner. I hadn’t had a real meal for quite some time. We dined on pig, turkey, fruit, wine, ice cream, and pie. I didn’t feel so good getting home as I’m not used to eating so heavily.
I’m in a weird mood tonight after hearing about Jamie’s friend, It does happen. I guess the question rolling around in my head is “how will I make my time on this earth fuller”? Life can blow out so quickly and without warning.
Rex was Maori and from New Zealand, tonight I toast to Rex!
Cheers
– Alex
If anyone wants to see the little town I live by (Puerto Lindo) I have posted a new video in the store.
As I sit on Panacea and getting ready for a 3 day sail tomorrow with a charter, I’ll toast to Rex…
Sorry for the loss, and the sea takes another one.
Disc’s were sent a couple of days ago to your FL address. Best of luck and enjoy eating off your reef. Large prawns and sea monkeys for dinner. Gota love it.
Take care my friend… Another one to Rex…

hey
Hi Alex, the videos are great, but , I think you should concentrate on the inhabitants, the culture, social interactions, and diving and fishing. I have had boats my entire life and I lived in the DR for 2 years, (Santo
domingo). My last sailboat was an Aberg 30, and I just cant tell you how sweet she could groove with the rudder tied up. I just thought I’d give you a jumpstart and just tell you that we, (your fans!), really want to see: Culture, Social interaction, Areas, (everything like cities, etc…) Schools-hospitals-transportation-infrastructure, instead of fixing boats in exotic places. Just for the record, I submit that you charge $4.99 a video, as that is what they are worth!!!
muchas chicas y cervesas!!!
“Alex” i have not recived the first movie that i orderd.. Im in guatemala.so close but so far
Sorry about the repeat blogs, I hit the refresh button and it resubmiited the blog. To clarify what I was trying to tell you was that when I brought back videos from the Dominican Republic to show my freinds, they didn’t give a rat about “me and mine”, but everything about “them and there’s”, so and I took it as a lesson learned.
PEACE AND NO COCONUTS FALLING ON MY HEAD!!!!
Sandbarsam,
Go to the “my account” tab at the top of the screen and download your video, you must download it.
Sbrash007,
Well “fixing boats in exotic places” is a big part of cruising. I do need to get more focused on specific things like cooking, provisioning, fishing, and general sailing tips. Schools-hospitals-transportation-infrastructure are all things you can find on the travel channel and that’s a different ball of wax all together. I do appreciate the input however and wish more people would tell me what they want to see. The episodes will be like any other TV show, they will get better with time. Did you ever see first season Star Trek (TNG) wow, was it bad. As far as price I’m going to charge according to how much work goes into the episode and it will be anywhere from 1.39 to 3-4 bucks, this way I’ll be motivated to produce better and better videos. My goal is for Project BlueSphere to be a learning experience and not entertainment. Its about getting people out of the system and cruising.
Hey Alex, Well you have a couple of beers on me. I enjoyed the video’s, I would like to see more of YOUR boat, and how you live the every day life. From cooking, sleeping etc… how you get propane for instants and how long will it last. Where and how you get the supplies, are they expensive? Do you shower on your boat. I know all of this is kinda personal but I would like to know…
Thanks in advance,
Katie
Yes I would like to know more about personal hygiene, like showers (how and how often, fresh water?) and shaving (razors or knife)? Just don’t get too personal with the videos :)
