I know it doesn’t look it from the picture but there is a nice swell coming from the NW. This swell will hold me prisoner on Splendid for the next 3-4 days. I just cant get to shore unless I want to land in a tumbling mess. Splendid is comfortable with a slight roll. We are protected by the reef which extends out from the small rocks on the island to the right in the picture. This is typical for this anchorage in November.
It’s good, I’m getting things done. I opened and Amazon bookstore yesterday (BlueSphere Books) and spent countless hours weeding through books to put together a good selection of cruising guides and essential reading. The cool thing about Amazon is you can find good second hand books. So many people ask me about how much it costs me to cruise. and the answer is it all depends on the person. I have built a skill set over years which allows me to cruise on next to nothing. If your planning to go cruising and need to watch your money you must buy Annie Hill’s Voyaging on a small income. It was my bible for many years. The other book that is essential to have on your boat is Jimmy Cornell’s world cruising routs. This will teach you about world wind and current patterns. If you really have no idea how to get started looking fore a small boat and you have very little money I suggest you buy John Vigor’s Twenty small boats to take you anywhere. I will expand BlueSphere books into a very comprehensive nautical book and video store. I make so little from Amazon its a joke, but I think it will be a nice thing to have at the website for you guys and every penny helps.
I woke up this morning and it was 77 degrees. I quickly had to put on scrubs and a long sleeve t-shirt, burrrrrr.
I’ve been in mad writing mode and being locked on Splendid for the next for days should prove to be productive. I do need to find an electrical leek as I could feel electrical current going through my lifeline and bimini frame yesterday.
Peace to all, have a great weekend.
Sail far and live slowly.

Salutations Alex, I have The Voyagers Handbook by Beth Leonard. I thought that was a good one and very comprehensive. Most of the Pardey videos are cool too. To all the armchair sailors, GET OUT ON THE WATER AS SOON AS YOU CAN! Have a great day !
Wow, bit of an adventure today. An older American couple I know decided to try and go to shore for some reason. They got pretty beat up on the way in and lost their prop on some rocks. A friend and I went to get them and bring them back to their boat. It took about 45 minutes playing around in the surf and trying to drop off and pick up people from a dangerious cement dock with large breaking waves. I was worried about tearing my dinks material. It all ended up well. I had my little dinght totally out of the water on a few waves with the enging winding up but it was kind of fun. We all returned soaked to the bone and I must have had 50 gallons of water in the dinghy.
Another day in paradise :)
Cheers
huge, HUGE, HUGE!!!!! Sucess today.
You know “they” say either bond everything together on your boat or don’t. Well everything on Splendid was bonded togeter via a copper strap running the length of the ship. Well today I cut all the connections to the threw hulls and BADDABING, my batteries are taking more amps. For some reason there was too much resistance in the grounding system. No more bondage for Splendid, she has been cut free. I’m hoping to wake up with the batteries sitting around 12.5, as opposed to 12. We will see if the batteries hold the amps there taking?
YIPPIEEEEE
Once again Alex… You’re having just too much fun. Thanks for saving the couple. Us ‘ol farts make some bad moves sometimes, and it’s guys like you that pull us out of the hole.
77 degrees! We busted into the 60’s and I had to dig out long pants. Weather happens. We’ll rebound and be in the upper 70’s and low 80’s for the next couple of weeks. Great weather.
I”m back to chasing leaks. I just feel like getting a big can of epoxy and starting at the bow just covering and sealing everything. Screw the esthetics, I want to stop laying towels around when it rains. But it’s just another project and oh how rewarding it is when the drips stop. :o)
Take care of yourself and by the way, I fell in love with Rotan Honduras. What an island. I want to go back and spend some time there. Been there? Tell me about it…
Later.

Capt Paul, will allways help out an old fart like you :) I dont know what they were thinking going to shore buy you know. They did invite me over for dinner and drinks last night, had some rum & tonics.
HA! I got the enging driven impeller pump I wanted. This is ofer a $300 pump. I won it new in the box on Ebay for 35.00. I need to get a pully for it but that should be easy enough. It is a discontinued model but i checked with sherwood and parts are still available no problem. Check it out :
