Itchy!

S4010007

This is how I feel at 7am waiting for the first bus to Panama City. I set an alarm for 5:30 so I have time to drink a pot of tea and make breakfast.  I don’t like to rush anywhere and need a good hour of peace in order to face the bus and madness of the city. Every few weeks I end up going to PC for one reason or another. This tip I needed to get a belt for the kubota, an external regulator, see my doctor, and pick up a FedEx that had my Raymarine T2 long linear drive and a gift that my fried Rick sent me (iphone), thanks bro. Rick came for a charter when I was back in the Las Pearlas islands. After her returned home he bought a Bristol Channel Cutter and is doing some cruising now. Also thanks to Buddy and Marty for helping in all of the shipping mayhem. It can be quite difficult getting packages sent to Panama!

Where I’m anchored the bus isn’t usually packed and I can find a seat. That isn’t S4010012the case for the trip back or from Sabenates or PC. I had to stand for an hour and a half for the second leg of the trip. The good news is it only costs me $5.25 to get to PC.

Everyone I know that has been to India says that I’d love it as it is supposed to be really “off the hook”, and I like life interesting and real.

Anyway I went to my doctor and he hooked me up with some really good antibiotics for a bladder infection, I love getting older! Anyway the pills were S4010011$7.00 each (10 days) but he had samples. He is a really good guy and I’ve known him for about 5 years. I invited him and his family to join me in the San Blas for a little R&R later in the season. Anyway, i took the first pill in his office and by the time i got to the bus  station I was swelling up like a balloon and tearing at my skin until I was bleeding. I’ve never had an allergic reaction to a medication before but WOW, I wont be taking this again any time soon! I gave him a ring on the cell and he told me to walk into the pharmacy and take 50mg of Benadryl. He said if I was starting to have any repertory issues to get back to his office ASAP. I didn’t have a lot of faith in the Benadryl but it worked like a champ. My point is when you travel make some good connections with doctors! I ended S4010014up spending the night at my friend Rogers house and see the Doc the next morning again for different medication.

In the end it was all worth it because I have AN IPHONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have such a love/hate relationship with technology but i need it to keep the site going. Many of my friends don’t even have computers and I kind of envy them. Electronics are such a bitch to keep healthy on a boat. I love the SKYPE APP. I’m not going to take the iphone off the boat so it doesn’t end up in the water or wet. I have a cheapie phone for that. And when I need to use my little PC to post a log all i do is pull the SIM card from the iphone and stick it in the computer, pretty slick eah?

And to Wally regarding the response on my last blog, your welcome. If you ever need any help with anything please feel free to contact me.

It’s raining cats and dogs right now and I’m going to scrub the deck and take a shower.

Sail far and live slowly.

  1. Nothing is ever easy on the boat! I just went to install the new linear drive and it identicle to my 30 year old one I am replacine except for the mount. Now I have to break out the sawzall, epoxy, and fibraglass, ARggggggg!

  2. Amen to that Alex:

It seems like every time I see a simple project like taking out 3 bolts and then put in the new part and then put the bolts back in, one bolt breaks. Then I spend two days getting the right stuff to drill it out and re-tap it and put in a new bolt, if I can find one that size

A 10 minute job turns into a few days. What causes that? If you find out, write the book, shoot the DVD and make a million. Put me down for one.

Hope all is well and stop scratchin’…

  3. Talk about a clusster !$%&^*()$!

I try and pick my projects and do one a day, even if it only takes 10 minutes on a sunday, I like to knock out a project a day no matter the size! Today was a “small” project day. I need to tap off the main fuel line to feed diesel to the little kubota. I bought the T connector when I was in PC. Simple enough right, 10 minutes? Well yours truly ran the diseal polishing pump for a couple minutes which spuded about a gallon of diseal into my lazerette. You think thats the bad part? I also got air in my main line and had to bleed the entre system after running my perkins out of fuel. I’ve been doing a fair amount of cursing today. Sometimes it a good idea not to do any projects, I’m going fishing!

On a good note I made a great loaf of bread this morning and having it with some fish and an ice cold beer :)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, BOATS MAKE ME CRAZY SOMETIMES!

    Peace, Love, and GOOOOZFRABA

  4. Does anyone know about the company sterling power? I’m looking for a dc voltage regulator and they seem to have some good products? My batteries are pretty well buggered and I need to throw some real volts at them. I tried doing it with my solar panels but it dosent work so well.

  5. Hey Alex,
Sterling are good, we’ve got a sterling pro regulator on our main engine 115amp alternator, and it charges the bank up really well.

  6. Hey Alex… question for you. i know of a 66 year old woman that wants to sail with you for a few days. I told her that you don’t allow woman on board. she asked me why? I could not answer her. She keeps on asking me and i don’t have the answer.
She would be a great sailor for a week or so and is willing to charter your services.

    Cheers

  7. Colin,
thanks for the input, I was looking at the sterling pro red D. I’m also thinking of making one with a reostat, I think I could do it for under 20 bucks.

    Curtis,
Did I say I don’t let women on the boat, I don’t think so? If it came out that way I meant I have a better connection teaching men how to sail and cruise. I know a few solo cruising women but their relationship with the sea is very differant then a mans. I have a female friend commine to visit in a few weeks. It would be a cold day in he’ll when I didn’t let women on the boat. If you want give her my contact info. Also when I wrote that I was going through a pretty hard time.

We should see a little weather here in the next few days from the hurricane to the NE. It will be a good
oppertinuity to get more writing done. I’m going to be releasing an eBook soon. I’m also looking for an editor to help out as my grammer is crap:)

    cheers
