Calling all techies and gear heads!

gen150

You guys want to see something cool? Check out Aquagen’s diesel watermaker, Refrigeration compressor, alternator, emergency  150 gal/min bilge pump and more setup! This thing is awesome!!! If I had the money I would most certainly buy this. I’m not interested in having a generator onboard. I don’t like 110 on a boat. The little 110 that I do use is for tools, computer and so on. My inverter handles all my 110 needs. I don’t use air-conditioning or anything that demands that kind of power.

What I do want is a watermaker and to be able to charge the batteries and run my P1040205refrigeration compressor. My little kubota diesel (4.5HP) motor only uses 1/8 of a gallon of diesel an hour and is incredibly reliable and economical. My main engine uses a gallon an hour and I cant afford to run it just to charge. I don’t usually need to charge as my solar panels keep my batteries fully charged.

Well guess what, I have the same motor that runs it all, and freshly rebuilt too. I also

have a cat pump (picture below) for the watermaker end, and the refrigeration P1040203compressor to run my big fridge. I have an extra alternator and I’d like to add the emergency bilge pump at some point. I guess it is all a matter of getting 12v clutches, pullies, belts and designing a way for it to all work together. It also looks like there is some sort of belt tensioning device on the AquaGen. I dont know much about this sort of thing so if anyone has any advice please clue me in. I’m talking to cat pumps now to get the specks. I think I can put a pully and 12 clutch on it.

Man if I can get this whole thing sorted out what an awesome addition to splendid.

Cheers from Georgetown.

  1. I’ve just noticed that my motor is a kubota EA200 which is a 4hp motor and the aqua gen is a kubota ea300 (7HP) Motor. Woundering if it will still work????

  2. Alex, about the ears, have you tried wax plugs to keep the water out? It has worked for me in the past. Also there are some solutions you can make to dry the ears out. I have never used them and can’t tell you what’s in them but some swear by them. (vinegar or peroxide)???? Treatment from the external ear works best. Thanks for the stories. Makes me excited for my adventure to come. Teresa

  3. Teresa,

    I use a 50/50 peroxide/alchohol mix. I use it whenever I get out of the water. I never tried wax plugs but when I’m in shape and spear fishing I’ll run to 40 or 50 feet. I dont know if one can wear plugs in that sort of applicatrion???

  4. Alex;

    If you attempt to use earplugs while free diving the pressure change will force the plugs further into the ear and it may also damate the external ear drum and the inner ear window. This could severley damage your hearing, so
    you would be much better off to treat your external ear canal with a peroxide/? mix.

    Usually the ear suffers from infections due to the skin splitting and the moisture/bacteria retained in the external ear canal. Peroxide will help with the bacterial problem, but alchohol will irritate an already damagedof infected ear canal.

    Past experience (I taught scuba diving for our Junior College for 33 years) says that you may wish to see a ear/nose/throat specialist if you continue to have ear problems or infections.

    Take care and enjoy your diving!
