Cruising Bahamas

A new day. This is what our approach to the Bahamas looked like Sunday morning from Splendid’s cockpit.P1040071

Our first night was peaceful however the wind decided to blow once again. We have been greeted with wind and rain. The wind is blowing hard 30+ from the South and I am very thankful to have the doctor (85 Lb  Manson Supreme) holding our home in place.

Another cruiser came into the gray and windy anchorage this afternoon after a beating in the gulf stream. I watched them for over an hour trying to get there hook to bight. I really cant recommend the Supreme enough. If your planning on cruising buy one from me, or someone else, just get one! It is such a lovely piece of mind. You wont regret it.

I tossed some leftovers overboard this afternoon and the sharks came, Guin was so excited. None were over 3-4 feet long, but what a sight for Guin. She laughed and did a little shark dance. Despite the weather we are all so happy to start this new chapter in our lives.

I’m going to pick up the doctor in the middle of the night and take advantage of the west wind behind this cold front. It’s about 65 miles to Chubb kay and we should be there tomorrow afternoon. We haven’t checked in to the Bahamas yet, nor have we left the boat. It will cost us $300.00 to check in (OUTCH!). If we were to check in here at Cat Cay the marina would charge us an extra Benjamin as a dock fee. We will go into Chubb or Nassau.

Man it’s good to be here.

Watch our spot tomorrow as we cross the big bank and enter the “tongue of the ocean”.

Cheers.

  1. Alex,
I’ve been following you on the website for about two years now and I could not be more excited for the three of you. It is great seeing any entry everyday the past few days. Please keep it up. I can’t wait to purchase and watch the third DVD. Thats probably the last thing on your mind right now though. Enjoy the Bahamas!

  3. Alex: Great going. I brought Panacea up from Boot Key.. 24 hour sail turned into 38… The story continues. Check the site. Anyway she’s here.

By the way, I was just over in the Bahamas and Chub Cay will smack you $100.00 to tie up the dinghy to check in too.

They are all figuring it out.

Best of luck and enjoy the journey. I’ll be watchin’ you…

  4. Man you don’t know how happy I am to see the logs coming from sailing again. Your joy shines though like a breath of freash air for me.
    Thanks

  5. Really glad, as I know you are, that you are on the move again. I was wondering if you had ever been to or planned on going to Samana? From other’s videos and writing it seems like a great deserted island. Suppose to have real good spear fishing. Keep those log entries and videos coming.

  6. Alex, glad your cruisin again………….but why can’t I get you on Spot?
I’d sure like to track your progress, used to get it, but webpage comes up blank maps, and no messages.
Love the videos, but can’t figure out how you get all that work done in such short time………..?????????
I need the secret…my projects take 10 times longer than I’ve originally figured..
