Money, Money, Money, WOOT it’s nice to spend a few bucks.
Today was like Christmas, our ENGEL CAME! I went shopping and put a few prized perishable items in the small refrigerated compartment. Basically it is 2 keep protein, chicken, fish, meat, and tofu. I can always sneak a beer in for a sundowner. The nice thing is it is a freezer as well so we can freeze a bunch of food for a trip. This is the most conservative means of refrigeration on the planet, I’ll be running it with solar power :)
I’ve been working on my SSB installation and radar mount. I’ve manufactured all the parts to the radar mast mount and just need to weld them up. I don’t have any aluminum stick but one of the guys here is going to do a couple welds for me 2morrow with his TIG setup.
Our 6 gallon batch of Welches grape juice wine is almost ready to rack. It is sitting at 12% alcohol and is more than palatable. It’s not great, but on the + side of good. As you guys can see from the Coopers logo to the left they are hooking me up with some home brewing kits for the trip. Captain Woodie from Latts & Atts turned me on to them. He swears by them, and made their brew during his circumnavigation.
I also got a chutescoop coming. After a lot of research on spinnaker furling gear I decided to go with the chute scoop. Most everyone goes for the ATN setup but after talking to some folks who have had chutescoops and ATN socks, they think the chute scoop is perfect and the ATN setup is a waste of an additional $300.
I’m off to do some work on another cruisers boat tomorrow. Sorry I haven’t been checking in more but believe it or not I’ve been keeping a schedule. I’m looking forward to dumping it soon.
Cheers everyone.

Hey Alex, what size Engel is that?
-Sebastian
Sebastian,
it is the MT17 http://www.engel-usa.com/mt17.htm
Awsome!!!!
I got a call from Sam a bit ago. It turns out the DNA test was Positive :) She sounded excited! As if Sam’s family wasn’t big enough.
Congrats to Sam on the DNA test. I guess you will get your aft berth remodeled now :)
Hi guys. A few months back someone recommended that I change the internal fuel filter on my Perkins 4108 with a spin on type. Some company made an after market adapter. I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to find that log and emails. If you read this can you tell me what company makes it again. It was like a $50.00 item and I want to get it. I cant find it by googeling either.
Regarding the first night running my Engel its working 2 good. I had the dial set half way from refrigerate to freeze, and it froze everything. When I got up my batteries were still sitting at 12.7. I’m really going to love this thing.
later
Are you running the Engel off the house bank, or do you have a separate battery for it?
Can you leave it running 24/7/365 and if so, what is the life expectancy of it?
I run it off the house bank. I know people have had these over 12 years, THEY ARE AWESOME!
the refrigerator is more important than the wine but im an old fogie so good luck with both-save some of that money
Bubby (Sam’s Grandmother),
I think Sam agrees with me it’s the other way around, but you know what they say “different strokes” and all. that being said it is a really nice addition Splendid.
Cheers.
I went to two spots and picked 2 five gall. buckets of grapes at each spot yesterday, as we had a hard frost the night before !! Hoping to go get a few more buckets in the next day or so. Last year I had 9 buckets, this year I want a 55 gal. drum of them. Not a real good year for them though so we will see.
Cold beer lover, Dean :)
I bottled 29 bottles of my Welches grape juice wine yesterday, it is more than palatable :) I’m putting it all in the bilge and starting a 6 gallon batch of coopers Mexican cervesa. My next batch of wine will be a blueberry. I’m going to use a clearing agent next time to get rid of the sediment as clearing is a problem on a boat.
Wine making is good times! Now I just need to be spear fishing every day and life will be complete.
Great !! That is the cervesa that I sent you. I need to try a batch of that welches, in the forums people rave aabout it.
Peace, love and purple feet :) Dean
CONGRATS TO SAM…..BIGGER IS BETTER (BOATS TOO) ….REFRIG AND FREEZER IS GOING TO MAKE LIFE BETTER….I MAY RETURN TO PLAN B IN NOVEMBER. MAVIS IS GOING TO WORK THROUGH THE WINTER TO SUPPORT ME(HA HA)..ON TO HAWAII OR BACK TO CARTAGENA, WHO KNOWS, I DON’T….LIFE IS GOOD….G&M
i need an engel. with my solar panels and windgenerator, i have more power than i can use. i’ve also decided to build a hydrogenerator. it’s a really simple concept, and will run 3 or 4 of my auto pilots at 6 knots. i’ve drawn up a blueprint for it, and it should be pretty cheap too.
seeing as i only use one autopilot at a time, i should pick up a small refrig unit to keep my beer and fish cold, and make ice cubes for drinks with umbrellas in them!
…also… ‘Grats, Sam!

DP-1000 for approx. $80.
Looked at it myself, but decided to have a pre-filter system that is more readily available to service. If you’re set up with excellent, completely accessible pre-filters with water separater (spin-on), you should very rarely need to change the primary. Good thinking about the spin-on, but I’d recommend a better pre instead. All the best.
just had a perfect day with sam and giuinafter brunchwe were offto the playground where guin picked up a cowboy and they tried all the machines–im exhauster-was able to sit and talk with sam and get a good talk to talk with her-she is beautiful inside and out-am i lucky-now ill miss them twice as much
Hey Alex…I’ll be moving aboard PRETTY LUCKY friday night. maybe I’ll be cutting the dock lines by mid NOV. Thanks for every thing –Bill
Your boat looks familiar, I am in Beach Marine, dock 9, we have a 40 foot far east ketch. We actually have just come down from CT and I now work at the consignment shop here at the marina. We have just installed a Waeco, it also runs off of our bank that is charged by our solar panels. Hope to see you around the marina if that is indeed your boat…
It is my boat, come over and say hi. I put a few items in the consignment shop (dock box)
Cheers.
you wouldn’t happen to have a wind vane for the sale, would ya?
no wind vane for sale. What kind of boat/rudder do you have? Some are easy to make.
