I spend the day yesterday pulling apart my old diesel generator, what a mess. I took off the starter and heat exchanger, and took it out of it’s frame as well as the fly wheel cover. I got it all de-greased and cleaned it up with a wire brush. Today it’s Ospho and painting. I found a hole in the exhaust which needs to be welded and I don’t have all the senders to hook it up to its computer. I don’t know if I’ll get it running before we take off.
I’m going to put up a few mast steps this morning as I have some work aloft.
Knocking out the boat projects!
Peace, Love, and cooler weather.

Great to hear that your arms haven’t forgotten how to get dirty. I can only picture how clean and how great it will be running once your hands, and mind get wrapped up in that project. Just like the old days. Sorry to hear about the heat, but one thing is, “YOUR FREE” and ho how sweet it must be. I hope your crew is doing great and Ho by the way, How is Darrin doing? He needs to give us an update as well ever now and then.
Well I wish I was there with you guys, but reading a new blog, keeps my mine free to some degree. yes, we the followers must have something to dream about, So keep the blogs coming and Thank you for taking the time it takes to share your life with us.

heya people.
i’m currently sitting in the air conditioning, next to alex and sam. we all have laptops in front of us and are clacking away. i’ve never had an office job, but i suspect it would be something like this, minus the beer and sunburn.
I sailed along behind (usually really far behind) Splendid up the florida coast from Marathon. i obtained fairly bad sunburn due to a bimini desperately needing restitching. (i swear i’m gonna do that before i leave Stuart).
I had Alas going 7.2 knots under sail along the western wall of the Gulf Stream… Considering Alas is completely covered in barnacles, i thought this was rather impressive… I left approximately 4 hours before Alex, Sam and Guin, and they still caught up to me in the last 20miles or so… Oh well. I never expected to win any races with in Alas!
After the heinous theft aboard Alas while i was stuck in canada, i wasn’t sure what to do for charging my batteries. they were dying more and more by the day. Luckily, Alex found a guy on craigslist who was selling cheap solar panels.. so i bought two with my dwindling cruisin’ kitty. i’m down to a nub now, but at least my batteries are charged, and i’m not paying for gas in my old generator to get them that way!
Anyway, i should be ready to get movin’ up north within a week… WITH A BIMINI THIS TIME!
Shade is a virtue.

Alex,
You might regret those words about wishing you were north. This summer is horrible. It’s barely 70 degrees and rains all the time here in Ohio. I have been able to get the Jet Ski out a few times with a wet suit. It should be mid 80’s here this time of the year. The forecast is for more of the same.
Jason
it was rainy today but JULY HAS BEEN DELIGHTFUL–DIDNT NEED AIR until this week—-had awonderful day at the brandywine river museum with my friend whis a docent there and knows all about andrew wyeth–the guys are out for dinner and i promised my friend VIVIAN WHO BABYSITS POP WHEN I TAKE OFF-SHE STUDYING TO BE A PRACTICAL NURSE AND IS STRUGGLING THAT I WOULD WRITE HER PAPER ON ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOOS=NEST—A DEPRESSING FILM ABOUT A MENTAL HOSPITAL–A GREAT FILM BUT A TOUGH SUBJECT.- —WHERE AND WHEN ARE YOU MOVING ON—-MISS YOU
Darrin: Yep. SHADE. You’ll love it. Good to hear you are sailing up and enjoying the ride. 7.2 with a reef on the bottom is good. Just carve it right and you’ll have more ballast. Best of luck amigo and we’ll do a burger again sometime. I’ll be watching and listening…

Darrin,
Great to hear from you, Sorry to hear about your miss futures, but its great to see you get passed it all. If ever there was a person to share your time with it would be Alex and his new family crew. How your part of Project Blue Shere as anyone and some way more than most. You have spent so much time on Splendid that I forget that you have your own sail boat to keep up. Maybe while the waters are so warm ho ALEX can jump in and help with the removal of your barnacles, al least the live ones. Maybe you could up load a picture of your home as well. Ho Alex wouldn’t mind. So keep up the hard work you do, for you as well have followers too. Thanks for helping Alex with Splendid and together you guys will sail for years to come, living free of the grid. Amen….
