Land and Sea

Bad day

Well I had to endure one of the worst days a sailor can endure. I had to replace the head in the main bathroom. I spent the day wrestling with poopie pluming, broken valves and sharp hose clamps, ARRRRRGGGGG! I took out the expensive Groko head (I never liked it) and put in a cheap Jabsco. It’s the same head I had on Namaste. I only had to rebuild Namast’s once in 5 years, and it was an easy job.

Tomorrow I’m getting up early to go North of Tampa to pick up Sam’s Christmas gift. I’ll probably be in the car for 4-5 hours. It’s funny; I’ve done more driving in the last few weeks than I have in the past 5 years. I’m not a big fan of driving, I think it’s dangerous. People think sailing around is dangerous, and it’s really completely the opposite. That being said it’s been nice to have access to a car lately.

I’ve uploaded another video it should hit the player in a few hours.

If everyone could go into the forums and start a thread I’d appreciate it. If you have any sailing stuff lying around that you don’t want put it in the “trading post”. I’d like to get the “forums” jump started.

I’m really enjoying the responses to the logs, its fun to read.

Cheers everyone.

Peace, Love, and coconuts.

Hey it is good to have you posting frequently again!!! I am glad you did the youtube thing too. I will hit the forum with something, I go to the catalina forums everyday (almost) but they are a alittle slow right now too.
    Keep it up!!

Well, for next several months when something breaks you can say, “It’s not so bad. At least I don’t have to fix the head.”

  3. Really cool new look for the web site! Better to fix it now than in the middle of some ocean. You need to get going, I hope you’re not growing land roots. Your site is my comfort in a ho-hum but overcharged world. Come see us if nearby.

    Alex,
You’re are my crack addiction. Whenever I get home and feel like kicking the dog, your log and videos are there to let me know that more is out there than what I’m living. Thanks for sharing your life…

  6. Alex,
Met you in Boot Key Harbor in 2004 (s/v Frosty’s Fantasy). Our “land break” is almost over!!! Will be back cruising
soon. Your site helps keep me cruising in my mind for now. Just keep on going.

Hey Alex! I havent emailed you in a while but Ive been watching all along. Good to see you still at it and Splendid is a beautiful boat! Ive always loved the Cheoy Lees.

Well I lost my first boat, my Catalina C25 in Hurricane Ike this past summer but Ive been keeping my head up and looking for a new blue water boat, looking small and cheap. Keeping my eyes out for a good Albin Vega or something of the likes. Currently considering a 72 Yankee 30. She needs work but dont they all????

Keep it up man! Merry xmas to you guys!

Your the man Alex. What a great idea you have followed upon.
I thinks its so cool how you can allow others to connect with your nautical adventure from
our homes, and dream for a minute.
I too plan a sailing future, and would still like to try a weekend before you leave the region.
New site video really makes me feel like I’ve climbed aboard, and
I cant wait to see where were headed dude.

Best of luck . Boyd; Nokimis, FL

Alex, I have both of your DVDs and they are great. I hope you are making one showing all your hard work on Splendid. I like the teak cleaning trick from the last DVD and would like to learn other tips. See you in the islands someday. Pete S/V Capriccio.

  17. Where can I purchase video # 2—–#1 GREAT

  18. Hey! I don’t know if you have time to look at the blogs of other sailor types but I’ve included a link to ours. These bad weather “winter” days aren’t so full of sailing stories but it’s our passion.

    http://thingswedidtoday.blogspot.com/

I’ve added your site to my blog and really enjoy it. We replaced our head with a second cheap Jabsco and have had a bit of trouble with it. The one it replaced worked fine for years. I guess we got a lemon. There is an old blog entry on the subject.

    Keep the info coming!
    Tammy

  19. djdiatribe@gmail.com

You help keep the passion alive while I live like a cockroach saving money to get my own boat.

Hey, have you had time to check-out the Volvo Ocean Race? they have a very good site where you can follow along and see video updates. fun to watch the extreme stuff sometimes. anyways it’s Christmas and I’m workin so I’ll wish you a Merry one island style, Mele Kaliki Maka and a Hauoli Maka Hiki Ho !

Love the new site and thank you for ALWAYS being a true down to earth inspiration! As far as your bad day, Jabsco is the only way to go! We’ve been there, and done that too on our boat. Good luck and hopefully the bad day will be a distant memory soon!
